There's nothing wrong with it. Different woods offer different tonal properties, look here for one of many websites that lists them. If you like the way your guitar sounds, don't let anyone else's opinion sway you.

Ditto above. If you like it, it's a winner. That's all that counts. :D

Basswood just isn't on the 'A' list for traditional builders. No big deal.

Neither is Cherry, Oak, Poplar, Butternut, lots of others. Basswood is sitting with some very good company on the 'B' (ahem) list, hehehe.

in my experience, basswood is a great wood, with only one negative feature - its quite soft.

great tone and sustain make up for that though.

For years I used a basswood strat with a locking trem and hot humbucker. I got tons of compliments on the sound of the guitar (or was it just the way I played it ?)

Later, I got an alder body which I like better.

I think basswood works well with a locking tremelo system, which adds brightness. The basswood helps tame that brightness.

Or with bright pickups, it is probably good.

If some people say a Tele made of pine sounds good, then basswood should be a good compromise, if you think pine would be too warm sounding.

There have been alot of guitars built with Basswood bodies, and necks. I like the wood but like someone said, it is very easy to dent. So make sure you use really good paint on it. Automotive Poly will protect it the best. If not you'll regret it later, since it will be really, really easy to ding, dent or scratch.

I hear cherry and basswood pair nicely. I will try this and let you know.
