What do you guys think of a 1in. thick red oak body with a 3/4 in. thick cherry top? I've got a good idea of what it would look like but not really how it would sound. Lots of opinions would be great.

Thanks.

You might wanna check places like these:

http://www.martinguitar.com/guitars/features/tonewood/

http://danube.westminstercollege.edu/stude...r/woodBody.html

http://www.bhefnerco.com/woods.htm

Or search for "tonal quality" on your particular woods on Google.

Hard to find a place that tells you what the combination will sound like, but at least if you know the properties of each wood, then it gives you a better idea of the combined sound.

Generally speaking though, the bottom body will pick up vibration from the neck, whereas the top will pick up more from the bridge. (of course this depends on the thickness of each layer too) :D

Isn't there a bit about tonewoods on Edromans site?

Again, doesn't talk about combinations but might help.

Look here. They have great descriptions. ED Roman has some, but he doesnt cover a whole lot.

Well if I understand the info correctly, that would be a very bright sounding guitar.Probably too bright, although a mohagany/black walnut mix looks about right for what I want.

Thanks guys for the links.

Wel, cherry is insanely bright. It takes some getting used to it for it to sound good.
