I'm trying to come up with a good veneer to contrast with purpleheart for my guitar. It's gonna be a 3 piece purpleheart laminate with veneer in between to contrast, then possibly more veneer (opposite shade of what's on the neck possibly), with purpleheart wings/mahongany back. The fretboard will be bocote. Anyway, my question is: should I use light (maple) or dark (walnut) veneer on the neck? Also, should I use the opposite or the same wood veneer before the wings? Thanks,

Devon

That it will...The top is gonna be only about 3/4" thick (gotta plane some twist out of the 1" board), but the neck is gonna be about 1 3/4" and go through the whole body. I started drawing up plans last night. This think is really gonna look good I think :D

Purpleheart isn't all that expensive...it's actually really cheap next ot other exotics. I bought mine from this guy but I got it from eBay. Good guy to deal with, haven't really checked out his site though. I do know that he kiln dries all of his wood. My purpleheart has a bit a a twist though, but overall I'm satisfied. Enjoy :D
