Has anyone tried using a new, straight 6”x 2” tool sharpening stone to level high frets.   I have a new replacement neck and only the frets over the heel are high.  I would of course polish afterwards with fine grit paper.  The stone I have is a combination tool/knife sharpener with different composition on each side.  It is brand new and straight.

I have used lots of dif things... cheap level, expensive level, steel stock... I've heard of folks using chunk of corian, i beam, others.  It has been my experience that ultimately when you get to leveling with higher grits... it's worth it to buy something precision.  philli luthier and crimson guitars have a precision milled bar that is somewhere around $24.  comparing that to the expensive level I bought that is precision milled and supposedly to .05" per foot... I think both the crimson and philli bars are better.  comparing to cheaper levels and steel stock I have - night and day.  just one aholes o.

Veijo from Rautia Guitars (retired) who has been tutoring our group for the last decade had an inexpensive diamond sharpening tool for leveling frets at one stage. Straightness is preferable.

Thinking how aggressive a diamond sharpener is it's even more important not to use any force to push the tool down compared to sandpaper.

One might also think that such a short tool can't be used for leveling frets but there's other opinions as well, explaining how a shorter tool still will cover several frets that will get leveled with each other and then overlapping to the next group or even just one fret forward will result well leveled frets.
