GOG427
i know it sound dumb but if i have a set of nice tuners that came off a right guitar can i put them on my lefty saga tele?
weezerboy
@ this may be a stupid answer, but wouldn;t that mean that they work they opposite way round to normal?
feylya
I believe you're right weezerboy. The threads in the tuner are cut in reverse so you'd have to twist the opposite way to normal. Although, if you put them on a reverse lefty headstock, and they were from a non reversed righty head, they should work.....
KILOWAT®
oh! so hendrix just changed strings the other way? he di'dnt change fotr left hnded pickups...
Snork
it will be fine. i replaced the lefty tuners on my cousins bass to my other cousins righty bass it worked fine.
weezerboy
but surely you have to string up on the other side of the peg for the tuners to function the standard way?
feylya
Na, I just checked a tuner I have on my desk (why I have one, I'll never know). It'll work fine, you'll just have to wind in the opposite direction than normal, ie away from you instead of towards you.
BLS
Yeh, i think reversed headstocks use left hand tuners so wouldnt right hand tuners work for a reversed lefty??

Page_Master
they work fine. me and my friend have screwed around with them before, hes a lefty. they just have left and right hand tuners because of headstock room.
KeithHowell
Tuners are designed, as far as I am aware to be installed so that the post is on the fingerboard side of the wormgear, this is so that the moment produced by the pull of the string pushes the gear towards the worm. If installed the other way around the string pull will pull the gear away from the worm causing slop ( how much will depend on the quality of the tuner) and tuning hassles. Some types of tuners can be dis-assembled and the worm installed the other way I've done this myself on several occasions. Keith
El Dangerouso
That makes sense, but wouldn't make a difference with a Floyd I guess, since the strings would be locked in place pre-tuner. (Not that that is the case that started this thread, I'm just playing out another senario.)
