what to put in the hole...no laughing

i read somewhere it says to put wax in pre-screwed holes on guitar befor painting and to put newspaper in pickup holes /routing zone..is this needed or not

for the prescrewed holes i just make a little "thingy" out of torn up paper towel....just make the kinda thing that you stick in your nose when you have a nosebleed

I just paint over them, I have been known to put a coil of masking tape inside the tremolo anchors though so paint doesn't get down in the threads.
