mdw3332
I have a nice neck with a Schaller R2 locking nut. Is there any problem using his with a hardtail bridge? Thanks, Marty
frank falbo
Yes. Locking nuts throw the guitar a little out of tune as you lock them. Without fine tuners you won't be able to compensate for that. If you use a Schaller fine tuner stop tailpiece you can do it. Otherwise sell the nut, buy some bone, and you'll have enough left for a ham sandwich.
Slaughthammer
yes, you will have problems, if you plan to lock the strings in the nut. when locking the strings, they get slightly out of tune, so you will need fine tuners on your bridge. but if you do not plan to lock the nut, you'll be just fine
frank falbo
Actually I have a couple lock nut necks that are on hardtail guitars and I just leave the locking pads off, but I don't like it. I wish they had regular nuts. Someone said Allparts has a bolt on nut with Ebonol on top for the nut material. So you can have a direct replacement nut that's not locking. El Dangerouso
Brian sells those also, I've got one on order. I'll let you know how it works out.
mdw3332
Thanks guys, that's sort of what I figured. Brian does have the nut you mentioned as well as the Schaller tailpiece. I e-mailed him to see if the nut will replace the Schaller (it says it's for a FR), but I'm leaning towards just getting the tailpiece. Anybody had any experience with them? goth_fiend
if your refering to the schaller bridge with the fine tuners, i have one in my warlock and i use a locking nut with it, but yeah, no fine tuners+locking nut= out of tune
Sethmetal
Schaeller makes stop tailpiece bridges with fine tuners they have a one piece and 2 piece deisgn(les Paul). I used the one piece design in conjunction with a locknut on a cheap Warlock. All went well and stays in tune till the next string change.
