i thought the same thing, i'm not sure poplar was the best choice for a neck wood especially if you're not going to laminate in a stronger center peice, and to make matters wors is that flatsawn lumber?

poplar is a fairly common and popular (pun pun) wood for bodies, not so much necks... i think parker is the only guitar maker that has used poplar in the neck and this is do-able because they use a carbon fiber(really stong) fingerboard, in addition the back of the neck is coated with a carbon fiber sheet...

well if you laminate in some ebony, purple heart, bubinga, wenge.... anything hard like that in the center, or 2 stripes then 3 peices of the poplar.... or just install carbon robs, you should be fine,

or you could use it has a practice neck to test your hand at contouring...

By the way...it seems to be coming along nicely.

Go for the imaginary (where it would be if you had strings on it) saddle of the high E.

That position, and to the nut, is your scale length.

:D

if thats true, wouldnt all the bridge saddles be in the same position?

well the bigger the string, the further it has to be set back to compensate for the thickness of that string so that the guitar intonates properly
