urbansmurf Posted March 13, 2004 Report Posted March 13, 2004 let me start with some updated pics: poplar neck with hot rod truss and 6 feet of wide fretwire. ok so, this will make me sound dumb, but how do i measure the scale length? im assuming its from the nut to the bridge, but what part of the bridge? thanks all me feels stupid Quote
RAI6 Posted March 13, 2004 Report Posted March 13, 2004 Go for the imaginary (where it would be if you had strings on it) saddle of the high E. That position, and to the nut, is your scale length. Quote
hyunsu Posted March 13, 2004 Report Posted March 13, 2004 wow.. your table is good.. wonderfull.. i think poplar neck will not strong.. and this pic is not quterswan(?).. your table is really so beatifull... table wood is black limba? Quote
krazyderek Posted March 13, 2004 Report Posted March 13, 2004 i think poplar neck will not strong.. and this pic is not quterswan(?).. i thought the same thing, i'm not sure poplar was the best choice for a neck wood especially if you're not going to laminate in a stronger center peice, and to make matters wors is that flatsawn lumber? poplar is a fairly common and popular (pun pun) wood for bodies, not so much necks... i think parker is the only guitar maker that has used poplar in the neck and this is do-able because they use a carbon fiber(really stong) fingerboard, in addition the back of the neck is coated with a carbon fiber sheet... urbansmurf Posted March 13, 2004 Author Report Posted March 13, 2004 thanks, my dad and me built that tabletop. eh, i guess its not so bad. i am obtaining a honduras mahogony neck blank for 20$ from a guy. oh well, this is how we leard Quote
krazyderek Posted March 13, 2004 Report Posted March 13, 2004 well if you laminate in some ebony, purple heart, bubinga, wenge.... anything hard like that in the center, or 2 stripes then 3 peices of the poplar.... or just install carbon robs, you should be fine, or you could use it has a practice neck to test your hand at contouring... urbansmurf Posted March 15, 2004 Author Report Posted March 15, 2004 Go for the imaginary (where it would be if you had strings on it) saddle of the high E. That position, and to the nut, is your scale length. if thats true, wouldnt all the bridge saddles be in the same position? Quote
