Help with 7-string Floyd Rose

Recommended Posts

Hi people

i've got a 7-string guitar with a liscenced FR bridge on it - but it doesn't work B)

after poking around it, it appears that a mounting post thingy (the bit you stick in the guitar before you put the bridge posts in...dunno what its called :D) has....er....disappeared on one side!! and now the bridge is being pulled forward INTO the wood of the guitar....and the hole for this is now distorted. Bummer :D

i've been looking at dereks site (the dreamland guitar one) and decided i'm gonna get the full-on original FR 7-string.....especially for that price :D

BUT i need help on what to do with the hole when mounting it - how do i fill it in and redrill it etc? Will it affect it if i put the metal thingy in first and then fill around it, or should i just fill it totally and then redrill the hole? :D

B)

I would first fill the hole with a wood dowel the diatemeter of the hole. Then you redrill it for the diameter of the new mounting studs. Anything else could result in a unstable mounting post....Another possibility would be to buy a trem with mounting studs that have a bigger diameter. Then you could redrill the existing whole for the new studs....
