jacksonfreak
Hi, Im in the middle of doing my first custom paint job, and it has a couple of stripes in it (NOT a Van Halen one, dont want eddie sueing my ass!) What tape or material do i use that will not allow the paint to run underneath it? I though masking tape would do it, but it hasnt worked on my test spraying. Any tips to get the striping right? Many thanks, Steve

johnbsharp
I run into problems with cheap masking tape. Try 3M. and use your fingernail to press on at edges. John
jeremywills
not for guitar work, but in the past i have used a real good blue colored tape when i was painting things like model kits and some spot jobs on bondo with the car, hell i dont remember who made it but it was better than that typical tan colored stuff, i think hes right it was 3m, i got it from the automotive section of walmart if i remember right, anyways, you might keep your eye out for that, good luck j
Scott Rosenberger
Get some automotive masking tape, it comes in widths from 1/16" on up. The narrow stuff is really good for bending curves and still holds paint from getting underneath. Mask your pattern with this, then use regular masking tape to cover the rest of the area you dont want painted
