jbkim
A cheaper wood probably wouldn't give you that "good twangy bright sound" .

Maher
Cheap than swamp ash Swamp ash and Alder and most expiencsive
spirit
Ash would be fine. My first guitar shall be hard european ash. Mahogany is good, but may need some denser wood to give more high end.
skibum5545
well, hard maple's REALLY bright. I've heard that oak is also bright and twangy, almost "banjo-like" by one description. It should probably suit your needs, and it'd look nice with a butterscotch finish.....mmmm....butterscotch......

Just out of curiosity, what price do you get for bubinga and padauk? (and where do you live, really).

Maher
UPS's site isnt much help , but by judging from Universal Jems International shipping rate ( http://www.universaljems.com/cart/ship.htm ) it isnt much
