fguihen
im sure you get this post a LOT but im gona post it anyway. about 3 years ago i attempted to make a les paul, but it failed miserably. im not fantastic at woodwork. i have most of the hand tools that i need. is it worth my while( and cost) to try again. id love to make a custom guitar of my own. nothing wild. just an explorer shape or flying v with stop end tail piece, 2 dimarzios or emg's.in a nice wood finish ( or deep metallic red)what ya all think? themikestro
I had no real experiance of woodworking (and still have only a little) and I've made a perfectly good guitar and I'm halfway through another. The key to getting it right is reading up, lots of planning and owning a good router. Something like an explorer would make an ideal project as it's not too complex and if you have a natural finish it'll make it an ideal first timer I think. Get a router, a spokeshave and some decent chisels and you're set!
MzI
id say take your time and dont rush things, a good set of plans will help, and read as much as you can, you can never have too much info MzI

mynamesucks
I am building my first guitar and ive spent about6 months on it i am about half way through my advice would be take your time. If you ever get frustrated or tired lave it and then come back to it later. God luck if you do decide to build it.
Primal
I highly recommend you take a look at the Musical Instrument Makers Forum at www.mimf.com. They were a GREAT asset (and still are) to me when I was wanting to build my first. They even have plans that you can order (Most of them are only $15.00 + shipping). Great forum, great people. Setch
Seconded. An afternoon in the MIMF library will answer all your questions and more.
Devon Headen
I'll probably go to MIMF for research when I attempt an acoustic. Doesn't seem like there are many acoustic builders around here. Myka looks like he does some good acoustic work, but there are tons of them on MIMF.
