All the way to peoria Posted June 3, 2004 Author Report Posted June 3, 2004 Could you move it for me somehow? Thanks Quote
All the way to peoria Posted June 3, 2004 Author Report Posted June 3, 2004 Thanks while I am waiting can someone help me I also need to know what i can and can not unsolder thanks. Chad Quote
Devon Headen Posted June 3, 2004 Report Posted June 3, 2004 You can unsolder everything that you need to unsolder. Just make a diagram of it, so you remember exactly how everything was. Quote
All the way to peoria Posted June 3, 2004 Author Report Posted June 3, 2004 That helps now i have some old emg selectson the guitar should i buy new ones or not? Quote
Devon Headen Posted June 3, 2004 Report Posted June 3, 2004 Unless you don't like the selects, I'd say keep them. Unless you go with more EMG, you're probably going to have to change the whole circuit so it's passive. Unless Selects are passive. I don't know much about EMGs. Quote
All the way to peoria Posted June 3, 2004 Author Report Posted June 3, 2004 I havn't been able to play the guitar on an amp yet so I am not sure wether or not i like them I will try them out today if my damn friend brings me my amp god hes so stupid if he doesn't bring it i will walk over to his house and take it i dont care if im sick . I'll call him soon. Thanks stone for the help. Could you recommend any paints that are good for guitars? Quote
syxxstring Posted June 3, 2004 Report Posted June 3, 2004 Could you recommend any paints that are good for guitars? do a search in the finish forum or read the stickys or the tutorials on the main page. as far as the selects, they are gonna suck in my experience. Quote
All the way to peoria Posted June 3, 2004 Author Report Posted June 3, 2004 alright i guess i will give them a try first i am getting my amp back tomarrow and a amp of ebay within 3 weeks thanks guys Quote
Devon Headen Posted June 3, 2004 Report Posted June 3, 2004 There are so many answers it isn't funny, and I don't see a need to start another lacquer vs. poly war here . Just do a forum search for anything you think would b e relavent. Maybe "lacquer", "poly", or ...how but I just post a couple? Here are a few very very informative threads This one gets a little messy Quote
westhemann Posted June 3, 2004 Report Posted June 3, 2004 i am well familiar with jb player guitars...the closest music store sells nothing but they are so overpriced for the quality it is not even funny...i am glad you got yours for free Quote
All the way to peoria Posted June 4, 2004 Author Report Posted June 4, 2004 it seems like a fairly nice guitar after some cosmetic touch up it will be pretty kick ass im thinkin about painting it red or dark blue maybe lime green. so first step is stripping then primer then paint then high gloss right? Thanks chad Quote
toddler68 Posted June 4, 2004 Report Posted June 4, 2004 Pretty sure 'selects' are passive. Had them in an old Westone - no battery. They did have a nice quick disconnect, tho. Quote
All the way to peoria Posted June 4, 2004 Author Report Posted June 4, 2004 Stupid question what is passive? by the way i am painting it green pearl now i need to go read some guitar magizines Chad Quote
spirit Posted June 4, 2004 Report Posted June 4, 2004 passive pickups work because the strings vibration induces a small current in the coils, which is amplified by the amplifier. they do not require a battery active pickups have a built in preamp and require a battery to work. Quote
All the way to peoria Posted June 5, 2004 Author Report Posted June 5, 2004 finally my friend brought me my amp but broke my damn cord i took twenty bucks from him so i can buy a new one. im also going to buy a cry baby pedal of ebay along with another 2 foot cord Chad Quote
Devon Headen Posted June 5, 2004 Report Posted June 5, 2004 Pretty sure 'selects' are passive. Had them in an old Westone - no battery. They did have a nice quick disconnect, tho. I didn't know EMG made any passive pickups...I guess if he thought they sucked that means EMG should stick to active Quote
All the way to peoria Posted June 5, 2004 Author Report Posted June 5, 2004 Sounds like fun im confused but yeah im readin alot about guitars screw math who needs it i got my calculator so i read giutar magizines in math now Rock on Chad Quote

I didn't know EMG made any passive pickups...I guess if he thought they sucked that means EMG should stick to active yes they also make passives...most people agree they suck... i don't remember if selects are passive but they are pretty much crap, and tat is what jb players come standard with Quote
spirit Posted June 5, 2004 Report Posted June 5, 2004 Yes, Selects are passive, as are the HZ range. I son't know much about the Selects, but the HZ range is designed to emulate active pickups, without actually being active. The problem is, they made some of them so high output in an effort to make them sound active, that they try to force the amp into overdrive, even if you're playing clean, so the clean tones of some of the range are rather lacking.
