budbostick Posted June 15, 2004 Report Posted June 15, 2004 I am about to building an explorer style body with a bubinga top and I was wondering what I need to do to put the top on the guitar. Can I just make the cavities go all the way through the mahogany or not. I really don't know what I am doing yet but someone help me out with that. Thanks. Quote
Dr. Jabsco Posted June 15, 2004 Report Posted June 15, 2004 You cut the shape and cavities after you gule the top on. And its fine if you cut into the mahogany (the top is only 1/4 or 1/8 of an inch) Quote
skibum5545 Posted June 15, 2004 Report Posted June 15, 2004 Are you talking about hollow body cavities, or pickguard cavities, or back rout electronics cavities? If it's the first, then you MUST rout before the top goes on. Otherwise your body won't be hollow! If it's the second, you can't have the top on. Otherwise you'll find yourself with perfect cavities hidden by a bubinga top! The third is your call. I don't speak from personal experience, but it seems like there'd be no harm in routing all the way through and then putting a 1/4" top on it. If I'm wrong, someone please correct me! Good luck!
