JamesRaven23 Posted June 19, 2004 Report Posted June 19, 2004 Hello everyone... Um, I was replacing the tone and volume knobs on my Ibanez RG320 guitar. I put the new (skull) knobs on and I accidentally tightened the screw too much... the slit between the peg collapsed and the two sides came together.. I separated them and tried straightening it back up but I havent had much success getting it perfectly straight like before so it looks (and feels) like a flat tire wobbling when I turn it. I was hoping someone might give me tips on getting it straight like before.... I suppose the only thing lamer than a skull knob is a wobbling skull knob Thanks, James Quote
mattdowney Posted June 19, 2004 Report Posted June 19, 2004 hey, that happened to me before if u cant get it straight u will probably need to get a new pot. i had to replace my pot, put i little piece of wire or something i nthe slit so it cant colapse again. good luck. matt Quote
JamesRaven23 Posted June 19, 2004 Author Report Posted June 19, 2004 Ahhh, I hate doing unecessary repairs.. but it's my own fault. I havent had my guitar for very long so excuse me if this question sounds stupid.. Will I need an Ibanez brand pot for my RG guitar? Or will just about any pot do? Also, are certain pots better than others? Thanks, James Quote
ansil Posted June 19, 2004 Report Posted June 19, 2004 you can just put in a little wood shim there and it should take care of it. Quote
lovekraft Posted June 19, 2004 Report Posted June 19, 2004 I'd leave well enough alone - besides, a bent pot gives it that "vintage vibe" that's so important! Quote
JamesRaven23 Posted June 19, 2004 Author Report Posted June 19, 2004 Well, leaving well enough alone is no longer an option... one half of the peg broke off as I was trying to adjust it .... just my luck. So let me know any helpful info you guys have on different types of pots and replacing them. Thanks, James Quote
lovekraft Posted June 19, 2004 Report Posted June 19, 2004 Any standard 500K guitar pot should work fine - get one from StewMac, WD, Brian, or anywhere guitar parts are sold. You can spend the extra money to buy a brand-name, like CTS or ALPS, but you'll probably never notice the difference - I use the 16mm Alpha pots like WD and Allparts offer, and I've had no problems with them. I'm sure others will disagree, but that's my take on it. Quote
