howard20 Posted June 22, 2004 Report Posted June 22, 2004 Hello, im new here and just need some advice from some people who have more knowledge then i do on this kinda subject. im upgrading my strat, i have replaced the bridge pickup with a fender red lace sensor, left the middle pickup in, and the neck pick-up is a EMG select pickup. i have also installed a cut out switch which you can see in the photos just below the volume switch. i have changed the pick-up selector to a new fender deluxe model aswell. all the wiring is as it should be! but im having problems with the sound on my guitar. For some reason the neck and middle pickups do not work when i plug it in, the bridge works absolutely fine but for some reason the middle and neck dont work at all. its very frustrating as i see no wiring problems with it. the only thing i do get is when i move the selctor switch to these positions i get a more intense humming noise from them, which is a bit odd. can any body suggest what i should do with my project and what suggestions people have. i would be most grateful. Cheers also, i have removed 2 tone pots from the guitar. all i did was unsolder all the connections and remove them. could this be cause of the problem or could putting them back remedy the problem? tsl602000 Posted June 22, 2004 Report Posted June 22, 2004 well, the pics ain't working. Either you wired it wrong or the pups are dead. My guess is that you made a wiring mistake. Goto the Seymour Duncan web site and download the appropriate schematics for your configuration and start to debug. Quote
truerussian558 Posted June 22, 2004 Report Posted June 22, 2004 you might have accidentally grounded the leads, but that doesnt explain the humming and if the pickups where working before they shouldnt be dead Quote
lovekraft Posted June 22, 2004 Report Posted June 22, 2004 I can't see enough in your pic to even follow the wiring, but the extra hum at the middle and neck positions would make me suspect that those pickups aren't grounded. Sorry, but without some more info or a close-up shot, that's all I got. Quote
Stalefish Posted June 23, 2004 Report Posted June 23, 2004 Again, not a lot we can do without the pictures (try Fullservesite) but I can tell you that it shouldn't have anything to do with the tone pots not being there.. However, you may have accidentally done something else to the circuit.. I'll agree with Lovekraft and say that the neck and middle probably aren't grounded.. May have happened when you removed the tone pots.. But by themselves, not having the tone pots there shouldn't do anything to the circuit.. Hope that helps.. Quote
