mortissimo
I'm going to be adding a switch in my guitar that cuts off the sound signal... what i'll be doing is using a typical three-way toggle switch I had spare, connecting the volume to the left prong on the switch, and the middle prong to the output jack... but does the toggle switch need to be earthed? And if so, will I just run a seperate wire from the end of the switch to earth?
Biohazard
I think what you need to do is to get a SPDT switch, its volume to the main switch leg. Then the two poles the switch "throws" two will be the guitar output jack and the other (the kill leg) will be the ground.
lovekraft
Biohazard's got the right idea - short it to ground to kill it. If you open the circuit, you turn the rest of your electronics into an antenna, inviting nasty noises and Spinal Tap moments.
