cacibi Posted July 3, 2004 Report Posted July 3, 2004 I've read in many places about using Naptha to clean the wood before finishing. I went to the hardware store to look for some and what I found was a product called 'VM&P Naptha', which apparently stands for 'Varnish Maker's & Painter's' Naptha. So my question is: Is this the right stuff to use or is there another Naptha product I should be looking for? Thanks Quote
Drak Posted July 3, 2004 Report Posted July 3, 2004 Yeah, that's it. I used to do that because I read that it was the right thing to do, but if you sand your work well and blow it off well, I don't think it needs that really. It's to remove any finger or arm oils that got onto the wood, or if you're using an oily wood, it dries it up so the finish sticks well to it, so if you're using some sort of oily wood, definitely use it, but otherwise, I just sand it really well and blow it off and go, and I've had no problems. It's not 'wrong', but it's not always 'necessary' either. Everybody has their own ways... Quote
