skibum5545 Posted July 5, 2004 Report Share Posted July 5, 2004 1 If you're using an open-grained wood such as ash, if you paint it without filling the grain, the grain shows through. Otherwise, you can dye the wood, and give it a clear coat on top. Guitar dye is like any other kind of dye: you wipe it onto the wood, wait for it to soak in, and wipe it off. www.stewmac.com, while not necessarily cheap, is a good source for dyes.
