mattdowney
hey, i have a Dimarzio Super Distortion in the bridge and a PAFpro in the neck of the rhoads i built. when i play at loud volume(jamming with drums, by band) i get a squeeling feedback nois when i stop playing. like when i play something then i stop put my hand on my strings to stop the vibration, and it feedbacks. it does it mor in the super D but still a bit in the PAF. i play through a Randall RG75, here are my EQ settings: bass-3-4 mid-4 treb-9-10 gain-8 contour-4 the body is rock maple if that could affect anything. does anyone else have these pickups? and if you do do they squeel like this? ive noticed if i turn my trebal down the squeeling lessens quite a bit. what could be causing this? imm pretty sure they are not microphonic. the store i bought the pickups from said its normal for pickups of this high gain. its not a huge problem i can just adjust my amp settings, and the pickups sound so good, is it normal for high gain pickups to squeel when played loud at high gain? any help will be apriciated. thanks matt. Yes it's "normal" You can minimize this by making sure your cavities are sheilded and you can make it go away altogether by using a Noise Gate
Jon Bell
It could be a screw or something vibrating inside the guitar or pickups. However I've found that all pickups will start squealing if you give enough volume and gain on your amp. Try standing further from your amp and don't face it when you play (although you might be doing this already.
lovekraft
Sorry, but if it squeals with your hand muffling the strings, your pickups are either mounted loosely enough to vibrate on their own, or the pickups are microphonic. There's a tutorial on the main site that shows you how to pot your pickups. I'd check the mounts first, but it's probably the pickups. Or you could turn down the amp. jefm
On high gain....are they supposed to.....OOOOoooo yeah.... If you can master how to do it when you want it you'll be set.... if you turn your tone up it helps control and slow the development of it a bit on mine...getting farther from the amp definately.... Potting the pickups would help....
litchfield
The high treble will only accentuate the issue. Ever Dimarzio SD I ever used did this. Point A of why I switched to duncans.
