eiseyrokker Posted July 9, 2004 Report Posted July 9, 2004 okay, on eBay I've noticed a couple auctions int he luthier section, and, as I was interested in using cherry for a les paul a few months ago, but dropped the idea, i was wondering, what kind of effect would using cherry have for acoustic tone? Is it more similar to mahogany or rosewood? Or idoes it have a distinct tone all its own? I'm looking to use soemhting taht ahs a lot of bass to it, and any help you could give would be much appreciated. Quote
eiseyrokker Posted July 9, 2004 Author Report Posted July 9, 2004 sorry, the topic should read cherry back and sides. Hope that didnt cause too much confusion. Quote
litchfield Posted July 9, 2004 Report Posted July 9, 2004 Well, I hate to tell ya, but as beautiful as cherry is, it sounds like maple. Quite bright. Might try something like mahogany which can come figured, or bubinga or koa. They can be bleached if you seek a lighter colored wood BTW..was this one of the ones you considered? Quote

eiseyrokker Posted July 12, 2004 Author Report Posted July 12, 2004 how is koa compared to mahogany? I want osmehting really bassy. Also, I've noticed that the Taylor 400 series uses a wood for the back and sides called ovangkal. whats the deal on that? Quote
litchfield Posted July 12, 2004 Report Posted July 12, 2004 Ovankol is what Warwick uses on bass necks. Nice balanaced low end. Koa, I have never observed. Quote
