ffmwb
i was thinking about starting a flying v project soon (gibson style), but im unsure of the size. i was looking at the stew mac one peiece bodies, but was wondering if 13 3/4" by 20" was enough wood. does anyone know the dimensions of the flying v shape, or if this is enough before i buy plans. cheers. MzI
your best bet would be to do a topic search and find out where the plans are for free, also what gibson body style are you doing there is 4 different gibson flying v's MzI
Curtis P
Draw up your own, I did mine that way, Wes (Metal Mod) did them that way, and besides, it is way better to have your own design, you can only copy so much until its just a cookie cutter guitar, and who really wants that?? MzI
I also drew up my own set of plans in cad, so the ones i have are totally custom for my V MzI
Curtis P
take a look at the neal moser V, that is something you dont see every day, i modeled mine, something like that, not realy close, but it still has cut outs, and still looks like it can kill you Curtis
ffmwb
cheers for the replies. i think ill end up drawing my own plans, but i was interested because its my first project and i wanted a v because of the easy shape, but i dont like the non gibson v's. i was gonna make just a gibson style body, but that was about all id decided on so far, i havnt decided on hardware/ pickups etc.
Curtis P
Check out this one thats the one I was talking about, it is a little more difficult, but hey, if you dont like it, 4 little cuts on the band saw and you get something like this I personally like the first one way better, but thats my own personal taste Curtis
