truerussian558 Posted July 18, 2004 Report Posted July 18, 2004 http://www.photobucket.com for photos the first thing to do (you dont need professional training to know), is to take off the strings so it doesnt screw up more, and then the more (very much more), knowledgeable repair experts can help Quote
litchfield Posted July 18, 2004 Report Posted July 18, 2004 Brian did a tutorian on the main site on how to fix that. Not a big issue at all. Quote
soapbarstrat Posted July 19, 2004 Report Posted July 19, 2004 Maybe that tutorial might work in a few cases, but for many other cases, it is more work, or a different kind of work, than what is needed. Most twisting is slight enough that some careful fret-board re-leveling should get the job done. But if the twist is so bad that an unexperienced eye can easily see it, it sounds like a "basket case". Even "basket cases" can sometimes be made to work with enough effort. Or with less effort if you are not so concerned with looks ( as in a cheap Cort bass I have that had a very twisted neck, but now plays fine (looks less than fine, tho) ) So, at the very least, you would have to deal with re-fretting, which is actually quite an issue. I have yet to see this happen yet (except on purpose), but if a neck is twisted in a way that makes the treble side at the nut go lower than the "plane" of a typical straight neck, you could actually have a neck that plays better than normal by leaving it twisted that way (it would probably still fret-work, board leveling in some areas).
