Myth_Pharoah
Hey... Well, what's a good combination for heavy metal stuff? Does it matter? I play metallica mostly. Also, which would be the best pickups for Metallica, type playing? I pretty sure most will say EMG 85/60(which is better, more grungy?) bridge and EMG 81 Neck. What about the DiMarzios? Which are good? Again... old metallica type grungy sounding, good OD. Also, what's a good bridge? I mean, a decent gotoh easy to install, no tremolo, tune or matic. Crzywhiteboy
for metallica sound i say you get al alder body, with EMG 81 in the bridge for solos like Kirk does and a 60 in the neck for the rest and the first mastert of puppets solo sound cuz as you know its played by james on his emg 60. Docaroo
yeah i think you should go with EMG 81/60 as said above... as far as DiMarzio's i've heard the Evolutions played and am about to get a set for my Ibanez - they are truly fantastic pups!! Myth_Pharoah
I said I knew you were gonna say EMGs... other then them. In dms... which is good combo? Both evos? Also, which guitars and easier to build? Neck through or normal ones? Which has higher quality? Sustain and tone wise?
Biohazard
Set neck has more sustain that bolt on. Neck through has more sustain than set neck. As far as I am aware, bolt on is easiets to make.
MzI
actually any decent hardwood will get you a decent sound when everything is done correctly, kirk or james could both play ash strats with bolt on necks and single coil pickups and it would still sound like metallica, another thing dont try to emulate sumone elses sound make up your own, as for pickups get whatever you want emg duncan dimarzio they are all good MzI
Myth_Pharoah
Hmmm... well no dude. I'm looking for a more thrashy kinda tone, if that exists, so and Metallica are the most thrashy band I've ever heard, so yeah. Also, what about the tone difference depending on the neck types? litchfield
For dimarzios, an evo set is goos, evo bridge/PAF or Evo bridge/ Super
Myth_Pharoah
These have a descent enough clean also?
Librero
that depends on your standards. i have an evo bridge pickup in one of my guitars. in some instances it's fine for me. other times it's not.
Myth_Pharoah
Hmm... What about spliting the coils or something? :S
68 lost souls
Easiest to do that with is probably duncan. There what Im using to do alot of realy funky wiring.
MzI
actually you can get trash tones from any kinda guitar, for example, iron maiden uses strats with single coil pups and they have an awesome sound, also metallica is not the thrasiest band out there sorry to dissapoint you MzI
Docaroo
EVo bridge/neck set rules - if you don't like EMGs i would recommend these guys!!!
marek
i play a lot of hardcore etc, my favorite is the duncan '59. it's like a bog standard les paul/SG pickup. a lot of hardcore/metal/etc bands use out-of-the-box gibsons, so if it's good enough for them it's good enough for me. Metallica the most thrashy band you heard? try some pantera! their guitarist also has his own signature pickup - "the dimebucker". also check out the duncan invader, although methinks it's not so versatile. but like it said above, a nice pickup doesn't make you a better guitarist, especially when it comes to heavy stuff. maybe a better action would help though.
