SguitarM527
ok to start: i did a search on this topic and didnt get any results about this specific topic. the results turned up inlaying and body binding, nothing about this. just to clear my name anyways i was wondering about neck binding. 1.)do i have to bind the neck slash fingerboard. 2.) if so, can i use the same binding i have for the body (i ordered 108 inches, plenty of extra binding) 3.)where should i start the binding? at the neck to bdoy joint? all these questions are active if neck binding even exists...ive never built a guitar before, and "neck binding" isnt in any of the books i ordered, but my current hamer electric guitar appears to have a binding around the neck. thanks for any replies. Devon Headen
no yes you bind the whole fretboard not just from the body up.

Devon Headen
No you don't have to bind the neck. Mostly it's for appearance, but some people like it because it seals the grain. Yes you can use the same binding if you do wind up binding the neck.
SguitarM527
ok. now im a little bit clearer. so i plan on binding the body becasue im making a tele type shape. now if i choose not to bind the neck, should the frets just be filed down in place of having them overhang the binding?
