monkey69962000 Posted July 23, 2004 Report Posted July 23, 2004 i want to know what is book matched wood. How can you achive this too. Quote
truerussian558 Posted July 23, 2004 Report Posted July 23, 2004 bookmatching as i beleive, is when they take a piece of wood, and stand it on its side, and cut it leghtwise, , thus the grain is mirrored on both sides (if its flatsawn), and you open it like a book and glue the pieces together, a cheaper way to get a one piece look for a top, and looks nicer too, (symetry is a great thing in this world), this is usually doe with a bandsaw, with a resawing blade, and then usually run through a planer so the top is level, Quote
monkey69962000 Posted July 23, 2004 Author Report Posted July 23, 2004 do they sell it under book matched wood at like home depot or osh Quote
truerussian558 Posted July 23, 2004 Report Posted July 23, 2004 i seriously doubt that home depot sells quality bookmatched wood, (or at all), its more like to be found at a specialyty, wood craft store, with thin veeners, you rarely have big peieces of bookmatched bood, woo youlkl have to either do it yourself or pay/ask someone to do it. but ost guitar part suppliers sell bookmathced top wood (i beleive Quote
MzI Posted July 23, 2004 Report Posted July 23, 2004 your best bet, dont ever buy guitar building wood at home depot or giant stores like that, buy from a specilty store that sells hardwoods, as for book matchin, its when you resaw a piece of wood in half usually on the ban saw and you open it like a book, just make sure you line up the grain as close as possible it makes it look better MzI Quote
