benglaus
Hello, I'm wanting to rout the cavity for placing a truss rod and I was wondering about the positioning of the rod. How far into the body of the guitar can I go - all the way until I run out of room for the pickup? If I go way into the body, should I just make sure to adjust the truss rod length so that the middle of the bow is at the middle of the fret length scale? One last question, when you talk about the scale of a guitar - is it measured from nut to bridge or nut to tailpiece? Further, do you measure from the edge of the nut (I'm assuming) or the center of the nut. Thanks for your help!

slipperywombat
The truss rod doesn't go into the body. At least that's the case on bolt-ons, I'm not sure precisely where the stopping point for the rod is on a neck through, if that's what you need to know. Nut to bridge, rather than tailpiece. Edge of nut. Technically, the distance should probably be from the peak of the groove in the nut slot, but that's why we have adjustable bridge saddles! EDIT I suppose I should have mentioned too, that yes, these questions have been answered before, but I understand that it can be tricky to sort out the good info after doing a search for "Truss Rod". Good luck building.
