axemannate
I am about to do a pyramid inlay on an old rg 550 neck and dont exactly know how to remove the inlays. I was planning on carving them out with a dremel tool, but what should i do on the 12th and 24th frets? Will the pyrwmid cover up the holes that i am going to cut out? Or should i remove them a differnt way? I am stuck on what to do.p
skibum5545
What kind of wood is it? If it's ebony, you can remove the top little bit and use ebony dust and epoxy as a paste to cover them. If your inlay design covers them, all the easier. For rosewood, you can use the same dust technique, but because of the grain it doesn't work as well. deshibs
I'm glad that you asked this question, I was planning to do a similar project. But, I have been considering removing the fretboard and start that part from scratch, it seems easier to work with that way, you will have to remove the frets anyway, so refretting will have to be done either way. Anyway, good luck with it! Shibs
