monkey69962000 Posted July 24, 2004 Report Posted July 24, 2004 ok maybe lovekraft was right about me knowing a lot about pickups, but i know enough to build a decent one. Now the main thing i need to know is how do i put on a shield wire on a humbucker. Quote
ansil Posted July 24, 2004 Report Posted July 24, 2004 usualy one builds the pickup then has solder tabs to which ytou attach the shielded wire. other wise you take the shielded or braided casing and slide it up the pickup wires already there Quote
monkey69962000 Posted July 24, 2004 Author Report Posted July 24, 2004 what. sOrry i need like a diagram or a pic it Quote
lovekraft Posted July 24, 2004 Report Posted July 24, 2004 The shield in the pickup wire is to protect the signal wires from EMI noise. It can be connected to whatever shielding you are using in the pickup itself, or left disconnected (floating) at the pickup end, so long as the other end connects to ground. Quote
monkey69962000 Posted July 25, 2004 Author Report Posted July 25, 2004 wait i want to a pic of a shield wire so i know how to put one on a seymour duncan antiquity when i get one. I need the shield wire for the diagram that lovekraft gave me for the coil tapping. If i use that do i need a shield wire Quote
lovekraft Posted July 25, 2004 Report Posted July 25, 2004 The Antiquity comes equipped with a shielded cable - there will be no need to install one. Quote
monkey69962000 Posted July 25, 2004 Author Report Posted July 25, 2004 i need to practice on a cheap one first though Quote
lovekraft Posted July 25, 2004 Report Posted July 25, 2004 Practice doing what? Any decent pickup made today comes with a shielded cable. There is nothing to add, just wired the darned thing up! The wires are color-coded, and you have a wiring diagram and the link to the Guitar Electronics color code chart. What, exactly, do you need a picture of? Quote
