  1. Don't know the size, but if your working with project boxes, a set of step bits is real handy for drilling thin wall material and would cover just about any size you would ever need. .
  2. I too don't think paint on rosewood is going to end well. Even if you did get it to stick ok, the heavy texture / pores / pits and valleys will make it hard to get clean edges on the lines. I'd definitely consider inlaying some veneer or even putting in some fret wire. On my FPS model I use a short and narrow vintage style wire that I think looks pretty good. Because its not played on, it goes pretty quick as there is no leveling or crowning to deal with. .
  3. The whole purpose of being able to sand wet is to aid in the removal of the sanding residue so that the paper does not load up.
  4. It looks great! If time is short, save the flaking paint project for when you have more time to play with it. Nothing good ever comes when your trying to hurry things along.
  5. A guitar is the sum of its parts and construction, everything plays a part in the final result. I think of woods as the spice in a dish in that they add flavor to the recipe, not replace the main ingredient.
  6. Very interesting, I wonder how it would work if it was a bit skinnier and longer, maybe around 8".
  7. I've been thinking about doing a Gilmore Jr from Guytronix and building a cool cab for it. http://www.guytronix.com/kitsoundclips.html
  8. Maybe just get some skeleton keys or maybe a handcuff key with the hollow center and figure out a way to mount them to a shaft like on these style tuners. .
  9. Corian is very easy to work with, no need for special saws.
  10. Sweet ... excellent job! That is my favorite style Jr in my all time favorite Gibson color. Its a beautiful and honest restoration that will suite her well for the decades to come.
  11. What brand shellac did you use? Was it fresh?
  12. Nitrile gloves are great to have in the shop. I also like to have some cheap thin cotton gloves around too .
  13. Thanks all for the input. Yea, I'm guilty of doing that myself, this time included
  14. I've been contemplating a new neck through build with a full width book matched top. What I'm not getting my head wrapped around is the best way to go about creating the lowered area on the front side for the top. Whats your favorite way?
  15. Like ihocky2 mentioned, I'd also say get some real pore filler or epoxy and play it safe. I've got a swamp ash body / walnut top project starting up and will be using Zpoxy finishing resin. I like the way if fills, sands, and looks for a natural or trans finish. Here is a good YouTube showing how to apply it with a squeegee And here is some more usefull info from LMI http://www.lmii.com/CartTwo/thirdproducts....Header=Z%2Dpoxy
  16. Along with Suhr, MusicMan has also been experimenting with the roasted maple. From what I've seen / read from MusicMan and Suhr is that its done to the rough lumber, not a shaped neck. The purpose is supposed to be solely a stability thing and in the case of Suhr, allows them to now offer figured necks.
  17. What kind of tuners were originally in there? What tuners did you order? Are they threaded bushings or press fit? As was mentioned, they make larger conversion bushings for press fit. It may be easier in the end to just order the correct size tuners.
  18. Excellent!! ... love the War Of The Worlds, but that robot is just too sweet!!
