  1. The ground is bad on the input of the amp.
  2. Looks good, I love the carve and I actually like the look of the fretboard, its almost like, it flows with the body. Plus, later on down the road, when you get more practice in, you can add a nice inlay pattern to it if you wanted Curtis
  3. On my newest guitar, a Les Paul copy from the 80's, I changed pickups, tuners, bridge and tail peice and knobs, I am also working on wiring a "varitone" in place were the neck and bridge selector is and having one knob become the bridge and pickup selector Curtis
  4. why not a fabric top? There was a tutorial on the main page, it has been done on here by one or 2 people, it can look very unique as well, also lets you open up a whole range of woods to use for the body to give you different tones. For example, You can use your snake skin for the fingerboard, and then let yourself use a maple neck, and say an alder body. This will open your tonal possibilities, opposed to using a mahogany body with a maple top, Check out the main site under the Tutorials section, it should be there, if not then run a search through the forums and your should find something. Curtis
  5. Butterscotch Carmel in colour looks hot with chrome hardware, If it were mine, i would smoothe the carve a little more and take some more outta the horns, the body looks ok to me, maybe just a smidge more in the waist area, Curtis
  6. Thanks everyone, I will get to work on this ASAP
  7. Ok, How would i even go about clamping the dowel in place?
  8. when you say glue that creeps, what exactly do you mean, i havent heard that term before,
  9. Hi all, I have made a slight mistake on a body, both will be easily fixed, I just have a few questions before i go ahead and do it, One, The body is Basswood, I need to fill about, a 3/4 to 1 inch sized hole, i was thinking about getting a peice of hardwood dowel, drilling the hole out to the correct size and gluing in the peice of dowel, sand flush, is this ok to do, will the end grain of the dowel mess up my solid colour finish? Two, I want to fill my neck pick up, mainly because, i only have one pick up left and its a Duncan 59, suited to be in the bridge position, can I fill the pickup route with, say a peice of walnut, as i have a peice ready at hand that will only need to be planed down to fit in, or should i get another peice of basswood? This is going to be a solid colour, so I am not too worried about the woods not having matching grain or anything, I just want to know if the end grain of the dowel will mess up my finishing, and if you folks reccomend using the walnut or another peice of basswood (i think i have a peice left over, it maybe too thin though) Thanks, Curtis
  10. good luck with the project, where are you thinking of relocating the toggle switch, and what will you do to cover up the hole, if your not going to re finish the body, I would suggest, keeping the toggle where it is, and adding a kill switch down near the volume/tone knobs, or have the kill switch where the toggle is right now, and have the toggle down near the volume and tone knobs, Curtis
  11. ........and just to throw everyone off course, did you folks hear Ozzy was releasing a new album in stores may 23? With none other then Zakk on guitar, I heard one of the new tracks today on the radio station, it sounded, kind of heavy, but the solo was just to thumbs way down, too digital and just a complete wanking on the guitar, And yes, the one Zakk is holding in that picture looks alot different then the production guitar, Curtis
  12. It could be possibly made to look nice, if you taken the back end and instead of it just like a Vee, shape it a little more rounded, and it may not look too too bad, But his version of the national anthem was just noise, you cant really top Jimi Hendrix's version. Curtis
  13. Well, I finally have a day off work so i am takin a little road trip to Oshawa first thing in the morning, have to sort out my passport in Whitby Ontario (just a little further then Oshawa) so, on my way back, I am stopping in at my uncles music store and tryin to strike up a deal. Curtis
  14. Peavey Bandit 112, 80 watt combo amp I hate this thing with a passion, Traynor old tube head, currently no cab, because i cant find one and havent built one yet. Cry Baby Wah pedal BOSS HM-2 distortion Digitech RP50 (use for chorus and reverb) And, my main axe is my Slammer by Hamer Explorer, (ya its a lower end series, but i put a set of seymour duncans in it, plus its a 3 peice mahogany body with maple neck, it sounds gooooooooooooooood now) Curtis
  15. Ok, i took a look at the amp again, it is not 8 ohm, it is a switchable 2 or 4 ohm application. So, this made it a little trickier to find speakes, Carvin sells a set of 4 ohm 300 watt speakers at 69.97 each plus tax and shipping, I have not yet called any music stores to price just celestion speakers, i am waiting to hear back from my uncle who is the owner and manager for Walters Music in Oshawa Ontario, he thought he had a lead on a Marshall 4x12 cab with a few scratches in it and the front was ripped a bit, he was looking into it for me. Curtis
  16. OK, so, building a cab is not totally out of the question as of right now, but heres a few questions to those who have actually built them. What exactly did you do to wire it into the head (i know, sounds like a total nooooooobie question, but i have never done one or really looked at one to see how it is set up, ) Has anyone ever had any luck using something to cover it other then Tolex? Thats about it for now, anxiously waiting for replies. Curtis
  17. Ya, i have played a few traynors before, so when i seen it was a traynor and for the price, i wasnt passin it up No luck (as of yet) on a cab, phoned a bunch of places today on lunch. Buddy at work said "just build one, you built the shelves and desk here, you should be able to build a box with 4 holes in it for speakers no problem" I pretty much said no right then and there, before he even finished. Curtis
  18. Yes, it looks like that one you posted MidnightLamp My local music store can test the tubes and such there, their tech guy is brilliant, so i will just take it to him and let him have a hay day with it. I will look into those cabs and see what i can come up with
  19. Well, after a crazy weekend of jamming and fooling around, i ended up getting an older tube head (Traynor) for a case of beer and 20 bucks with a new set of tubes in it (slightly hotter set he said??) i would have got the matching cab as well, but he had his basement flood, the head was upstairs and the cab was downstairs, the cab got ruined and the head was fine, so i was pretty good with that deal. So, i still have my Peavey Bandit 112, I am probaly going to trade it in on a cab (hopefully i can find a used cab at a music store or something) but i dont even know what i should be looking for?!?! My local music store when i phoned them today recommended a 4x12 Marshall, but, like usual they dont have anything used so they start out at 650 for the lower end stuff, they also reccomended a Behringer 4x12 for about 425 (these are canadian prices) I dont really know much about this stuff, all I know is that the head is a Traynor Tube head, 200 watt x 8 ohms resistance (i think it said 8 ohms, it is sitting at my grandparents house right now as i am in the current stage of re painting my room and repairing my bed) It is a tube amp, with apparently hotter tubes in it because the one burnt out? (I dont know much about tube amps either) So, I am just basiclly looking for some recomendations on what to run for a Cab, I am guessing i should go with a 4x12 over a 2x10 because a 2x10 does not put the air movement out as a 4x12 thus not letting you get the full sound quality (so i am told) So, thats it lads, help a fellow guitarist out, you guys tell me what to buy and i will go lookin for it Curtis
  20. Hello. Good friend of mine told me on friday that she is wanting to sell her guitar, amp, and case for 500 canadian, asked me if i was interested, i said, maybe, what is it, she replied with Ibanez S Series. It has a Trem, HSH pickups (stock) 6 string, the trem is missing the arm (are these a big deal to find and replace?) but everything else is mint on it. The amp is a Peavey road amp, maybe 50 watts, really nice clean tone on it, but no distortion, it may just be the amp i was lookin for to enhance my tone, but again, its old, and i dont know what its worth at all, and the case is just a soft side gig bag. Does anyone have any input or knowledge on if this is too much for her to be asking? I dont really want to throw her a low ball, and she wont seperate it all, she wants it to go as a complete set. Is the S series like a Sabre or no? I googled a few pics and it looks kind of like an RG with a few more contours, Thanks, Curtis
  21. plus, its a construction grade pine, and that really isnt anything used for guitar building (well, maybe the bench you built to work on the guitar?) Go to an actual lumber store and browse through their hardwood selection, you can probaly find Alder or Maple there for just a little more then what you would spend on getting enough 2x4s or 2x2s of construction grade pine to build your project. Curtis
  22. That is true. But still, after each insturment, you can always go back and re do, finishes, inlays, etc... Curtis
  23. Hey Wes, do you still have that White V 7 string you made a while back? That, as well as this guitar where sick looking, same with the ESP F copy, You have made some very sick guitars, but you still seem to be dissapointed in them, what gives? Curtis
