I have a tele with a bad volume pot, so I replaced it with a stewmac alpha 500k pot that I never used for another project, tele has 2 single coils, now I have what appears to be 2 tone controls and no volume. Please advise.
Re: (If you still want to ground the strings a ground wire needs to be attached to the bridge. As most guitarists have contact with the strings most of the time it will remian quiet.....just like when you touched the control plate.)
I used to have that problem- now I have the opposite. I have quiet until I touch the control plate.
I realize I may have to attach a ground wire from the control plate to the bridge. Is there another way?
This would require major surgery, also I tried attaching a ground from the plate to different components, but nothing seems to work.
OOPS! I mean it goes away when I remove my hand from it.
It's dead quiet until I touch the plate, volume or tone knobs. Then a loud buzz comes out of it. I tried attaching a wire to the control plate and soldering it to my ground (back of volume pot) but that didn't work. Any ideas?
Ground the control plate? I have a wiring schematic, but the only ground it mentions is wiring the ground back onto the volume pot. Is there a better way?
I have neck & bridge pickups working fine separately, but middle position is silent.
I used wiring diagram from Seymour Duncan, but nothing seems to work.
No, I bought it on Ebay.
I also bought a 3-way switch and the diagram I downloaded from Seymore-Duncan doesn't say exactly how to hook it up.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
If I only use one pot for volume, and leave out the tone, will the tone automatically go to the highest setting?
I never use the tone control, I set it on high and never touch it.
Can I remove it and use it as a volume control on a different guitar?
I built my first guitar, I'm having trouble with the electronics.
I have four components, neck pickup from a strat, volume and tone pots, and an input jack.
I'm sure my wiring is wrong, does anybody know the correct way to wire this setup?
