  1. Hi all I am having problems with a guitar im restoring. Im up to the eletcronics. When I touch the tone pot before putting on the cover i get a noise, kind of like when you touch the end of the jack plug. What could this be from...???? Apart from that it all seems to work.. fine. Volume does what its supposed to and the kil switch works and tone works. If i put a cover over the tone pot it doesn't make a noise cause the plastic is stopping it. But if I use gold chrome knobs i am assuming the touch will create this noise. If anyone could give me some ideas as to why this is happening that would be great.. Thanks...
  2. Well as much as it seems like a good Idea, I don't have the time to re do over, and I dont have the place. My parents garage was used for 2 weeks, and they dont want more spray painting going on in there and My apartment is no place for spraying a guitar. So it aint gona happen. maybe in the future Il redo it or a whole new project.
  3. Yeah i know it looks blotchy but in person it looks really dark purple with a metallic finish. Bright sun light and or camera flash reveals the crap paint job. ALAS this is my first restoration project and I can only improve on other projects
  4. Just an update for anyone who is following my progress and for those who have helped me out thus far thanks for your helpfull information and when its time to do my 2nd restoration, I think it will turn out even better. here are some update pics. I wet-sanded, then used a cutting compound, then polished it and it seems ready for hardware and wiring etc.... Its not a pro finish but I have learned many mistakes so the next one should get better.
  5. I am kinda stuck as to how to get my finished paint job to be smooth and glossy like PLEASE HELP !!!!!

  8. Yeah i hear ya, but its not gonna happen. The thing is painted and I have no expertise in cutting wood and no equipment to do it. Plus im sure Id fark it up I just got some of the gold hardware in from www.ibanezrules.com and looking for more. I need a gold tremelo non floating, and a gold nut i think its called bridge nut thingo. at the base of the headstock that holds the strings in place....
  9. ahahaha they were stickers not decals and were not going to come off so I sanded them into oblivion Yeah those dean guitars are awesome, mine wont turn out like that. This is just a project for me, I doubt it will be that good, but fingers crossed.. I have just finished the purple coat.
  10. Well thanks for your comments rgman I think !!! It may be ugly to you, but i like aggressive looking guitars and after im done with it, hopefully it will look alot better This is an old guitar that has never had a set of strings on it since I bought the guitar. Once its done I'm hoping it wil look out of this world and will play nice, as I have bought all new hardware for it. I paid $40 for this guitar about 15 yrs ago, and promised that id make a project out of it and im finally starting. Man I procrastinate....... Thanks for your kind welcome Vinny. Il be sure and post back when i have progressed more..
  11. Hi all this is my first post I have started restoring my old guitar the Hondo H-1. I have already sanded the guitar and sprayed on the primer. Here are some pictures of my progress thus far. I have a question about painting. I have already bought all the paint from an Auto paint shop who gave me lots of advice. Just like to know if I am doing it in the correct order. 1) Primer wait for it to dry and then sand. What grit sand should i use ?? 2) Then spray on the color. 3) Then spray on the laquer. and then sand again with very fine sandpaper and then re laquer? Does this sound right ?? Thanks
