  1. I got some DPDT switches, but I really only need an SPST like This One. How do I wire up the DPDT switch so it acts like an SPST?. The pic is a MESA channel switching footswitch. I have a Tremoverb and I'm making a strip that has four switches on it so I can trigger all four functions rather than get four individual FS's. thanks
  2. Ok, bear w/ me here. A while ago I modded my Crybaby Using This Site by putting a Halo inductor in, a Fulltone pot, True Bypass and I did the vocal mod. All was well. I have the Rev E version which is a little different. Here's a pic of the stock one from Stinkfoot's page: EDIT: Ok, I'm a Ree-ree, I think part of my problems is that I still haven't gotten the hang of resistor codes. I didn't mean to put 6k8 and 4k7, I meant 68k and 47k. Doh!!! Read on if you want a good laugh. Hopefully this will fix things up. Damn I hate being a noob! The other night I went back to do some more of the mods, but I won't bore you w/ all the noob mistakes I made. I'll just tell you what I currently have going on. the .01uf cap is the blue one on the right in that pic. I changed the 6k8 resistor to the left of that w/ a 4k7 (the gain mod). The resistor to the left of that one used to be a 1k5 and now it's a 2k2. On the bottom row, the resistor all the way to the left is supposed to be a 390k. I have a 510 b/c I thought it would reduce the distortion. So if anyone wants to take a stab as to why I still get distortion, that would be great. What I'll prolly end up doing when I get home, is just replace all the parts I changed the other night w/ stock ones and start over. But I'd like to know what I did wrong from the "experts" if you'd be so kind. If I still have problems, I'll take a pic of my board and put it up along side of this one in another post. Thanks and keep rockin! Dap
  3. I'm going to email the company, but their website indicates they get A LOT of emails each day so, I'm seeing what y'all think here. As stated in the description, I have a Fulltone pot for my wah and it's scratchy at the "high" end. Before I give up on it, can I use contact cleaner or something? I've gotten suggestions ranging from WD-40 to tuner cleaner and various others. I'm prolly gonna just buy a Hot Potz II for now and wait to hear from the company, but since Fulltone doesn't sell their pots to the public anymore (I got mine from Arielfx.com) I'd kinda like to salvage it if I can. But if not, **** happens. Thanks, Dap
  4. Yep, that's it. I actually had a few diagrams saved on my computer. One last question - I have a pot that you push and it stays down, then you push again so it pops up. Ok, 2 questions: 1. Can I decide which position is the split (ie, the "down" position)? 2. I want the coil closest to the bridge to be the "on" coil when I do the split. Which tab is that one? I'm kinda goin' by this diagram: Click Here Thanks!
  5. either will work just fine. you need to wire the guitar as normal and then wire the coil tap wires from your humbucker to the switch. it makes no difference if the switch is attached to the back of a volume or a tone pot because the switch and the pot operate seperatly even though they are built together Thanks Wez. Here's a lazy question (b/c I can prolly look it up easy enough) - whcih are the coil tap wires? If you don't know off the top of your head, no worries, I'll find it. Thanks again!
  6. Ok, I have a guitar that has Seymore Duncan pups = the JB/59 combo. It's got two volumes and one Tone. The JB is a 4-conductor pup. I want to be able to do a coil split for the JB and I want to use a stacked concentric pot for my tone control so I can have independent tones for each pup. I have the parts I need - a push/pull pot and the stacked concentric pot. But I'm having a heck of a time finding a schematic that works for me. Am I correct in thinking that I can replace the JB's stock Volume Pot w/ the push/pull? I've seen some schematics where the coil split happens w/ the tone knob. I obvously don't want that. So anyone have some pointers for me? I'm thinking of just printing up a diagram of a traditional LP diagram w/ push/pull splits and a diagram for my set up and figuring it out from there. I figured I'd post before I dove in. Thanks in advance!
  7. Anyone know where to find a "mini" sized 500k stacked concentric pot? I ordered the regular size before I realized that my ESP LTD EC-400AT has the smaller pots in it. I don't mind drilling if I HAVE to, but I'd rather not. I've checked some of the main websites, but I can't tell which are regular size and which are mini. Any links and/or tips are appreciated. Thanks!
  8. Thanks CB! When I first read your post I was at work so the image didn't show up. Once I got home I was able to see your schematic which will help. I'm still learning how to read those, but yours seemed laid out nicely so I'm sure it'll be easy enough to figure out. Thanks for all the explanations on the Lawrence thing and converting the 2-wire pup. Some of that was a little Greek to me, but again, I'm new at this and it gives me reason to look stuff up (like henries). I like all the learning. I'm not sure when I'll get around to this mod, but I'll print the stuff out and study it for a while so I know what I'm getting myself into. I kinda want to do it on an ES-335 copy I have, but I'd have to get new pups to do it. Rats! More gear
  9. Thanks, CB, this looks interesting. I'm a bit of a noob so bare w/ me here. Is the 4p3t switch a rotary? Do you have a link? And is the Q-Filter a separate thing? I looked it up and it appears so. I have a guitar that has the Seymour Duncan JB/59 combo in it and I think this would be a cool mod. the JB is 4 conductor and the 59 is 2. Which leads me to my final question - How do you convert a 2 conducter pup to a 4-conductor? Is there a good resource w/ pics on the web? Thanks again for the cool post. I'd really like to try this once I wrap my head around it.
  10. I did this to one of my guitars. VERY simple. Here's a link to the diagram I used: Killswitch Diagram EDIT: The above link changed. When I originally posted, it was the proper one, but for some odd reason, SD changed the page. Hmm And here's a link to a wesite that explains it: Explanation If you can do any kind of wiring on a guitar, this is ridiculously simple - I'm a newbie and I had no problems. Drilling a hole in my guitar was a little nervewracking, but everything else was simple after reading the above explanation and going by the diagram. Good luck!!
  11. If you want to go different, try some P90 style pups in there! I just put GFS Mean90s in an Ibanez Artstar (ES-335 copy), and it's really cool. Single coils on steroids! But not really singles and not really humbuckers. Definitely a cool tone. I used to have the Gibson Classic 57s in it (a 57 plus in the bridge). Those sounded awesome too, but you probably have that in the ES-335. I'd be curious to hear BBs in a semi-hollow. My friend's got an LP standard and he feels that they're a little too trebly for him. The recordings I've heard of his axe sound great (Bang Camaro) but I'm not gonna question his ears since tone's so subjective. Whatever settles on will be awesome I'm sure.
  12. thanks all. I guess I'll get some audio pots some day - I'm all done w/ that guitar for a while! LOL, getting everything through those F-holes and then back into place is a royal PITA. Not to mention, my wife keeps finding dental floss all over the house. It appears the cat has capitalized on my poor cleaning abilities and dragged the pieces everywhere. (For anyone not familiar w/ semi-hollows there is no back plate so you need to tie dental floss to the posts so that you can pull them back through the holes when you're done).
  13. Thanks Curtisa, but unless they were packaged wrong by Allparts, they're all linear pots. As I mentioned above, I'm taking a break from removing everything through those F-holes. But next time I do, I'll get my multimeter out and check the back of the pots and all that. But the packaging said Linear so I'm assuming it's accurate (what would be the likelihood of getting 4 linear pots and the two "wrong labled" pots end up in the tone?) Ok, I guess 50% for the statistics experts (think, I had to take it twice), but you know what I mean. Thanks and I'll updated when I get around to wanting to mess w/ this guitar again. I'm now moving onto my LTD EC400at - it only has one tone pot for both pups so I'm gonna get a concentric pot for greater control. Seems like they only make those in Audio taper, though. Oh well. Can't win 'em all. Thanks again.
  14. If I rember correctly, the Neck pup was around 7.64 and the bridge was around 8.59. Something close to that at least. Those should be high enough for a .022 cap, right? Maybe there are some connections happening that shouldn't be, but I would think the problems would be more significant. I've taken this thing apart too many times in the past month to worry right now LOL. Getting everything in and out of those F-holes is a royal PITA!! for now everythign's working, but I'm sure I'll do some tinkering sooner than later Thanks for the response
  15. You could just wire up a killswitch. It's pretty simple (I just did one over the weekend). As the one poster mentioned, you could have a concentric knob for Vol/tone and then use the empty hole for a killswitch (I'm I picture things right) - I'm at work so I can't see your image.
