  1. OK I'm using this diagram: http://www.lacemusic.com/wiring/pdf/6.pdf Would tell me how to adapt the wires going to the pickup selector in order to use a Fender 3Way switch, rather than a Gibson. Thank you
  2. Hey I'm back again, I've now sat down and tried to figure out the wiring and the diagram can be pretty daunting at first. The whole four wire thing and which wires to solder together and stuff is really annoying me. I can see that unshielded ground wire thing on my Gibson 498T but I can't see anything of the kind on my Seymour, what do I do here? Particularly help me with all the ground wires and stuff if you can, how do I solder some of the pot outputs to the pot itself, where do the capacitors go etc? Any help would be really appreciated Thank You
  3. Oh sorry! This should be in Solid Body, I posted it here completely by accident!
  4. Can anyone give us an idea of depths in a typical routing cavity for a humbucker? I have them all at home but I've forgotten to bring them... I have the shape and everything, I just need the two depths... Thanks for any help
  5. Ok mate thanks for all the help. The diagrams a little tricker than the other one I saw but I should be able to get it... Thanks!
  6. Ok thanks a lot mate, and what customizations will I have to make by using a Fender pickup selector?
  7. Ok and this is going to get my middle pickup option as two full humbuckers, not running like single coils or anything?
  8. Oh nothing I do sort of get it as I said but yeah, it's a bit different than that strat wiring I saw before, plus I know the Seymour has 4 wires and the Gibby only has 2... I'm just a bit, yeah you get me...
  9. Hey I've changed my design a lot recently if you've seen some of my other thread. I've now decided on the exact setup I want and it's going to be a lot different to the diagram I was given before unfortunately. I'm having a Gibson 498T in my bridge and a Seymour SH-4 in my neck. I'm now after an individual tone and volume control for each of my pickups, like a Les Paul. I only require a 3 Way pickup selector now as well, I'd like to use a fender style one. I want my pickup configuration on my selector to be as follows: Position 1: 498T Only Position 2: Both 498T and SH-4 running, both as full humbuckers Position 3: SH-4 Only Ok so can anyone help an electronics newb, AGAIN.... Thanks for any help.
  10. The Gibson looks like it only has one wire?!?! So how do I wire that differently?
  11. Ok mate sorry but I'm pretty much an electronics newb, I can follow diagrams for soldering circuit boards and thats about all, could you explain what a braided shield cable is and what differences it has to the other two which I'll need to take into account. Thanks for this...
  12. How much of a difference are woods in the same species? Like different species of mahogany etc.? How different do they sound?
  13. Ok so I need hookup wire. And the ground wire goes on the pot which has all the green wires? So if I'm getting you right, the JB and EMG will have four wires? Red Black White and Green? What about the gibson? Thanks for putting up with my incompetance.
  14. Unfortunately the SH-4 is the one that's fixed. Plus the Gibby I can't really get around changing, and I want something with a higher output than the 496's in the mid anyway. And well, that means the only one I can change is the EMG, which is the one out of the three which definately doesn't need to be changed due to its positioning. I'm not doing this to be different, it's just something I have to do now, and I'm not worried, it'll be a good experiment for me and if it sounds THAT bad then I have two other guitars which the JB and maybe the Gibby will fit in if need be, I'm not 'wasting' money. I'm only paying for half anyway. So this wiring will still be exactly the same with three humbuckers? And what do the green wires on the diagram represent? I'm not a wiz on guitar electronics (actually I suck which is why I'm posting this) but I know that both my guitars do not have green wires in them, are they the white wires or what? Also do I need any extra wire besides what comes on the pickups (I presume I do) and if so does this come with the other components? Thanks for the help, you think I'm a newbie and you're probably right but still, it's a learning thing. EDIT: Also, I can't see the ground wire which goes to your bridge area on that diagram, anyone care to point out where that is or where it should be?
  15. Explain, please. School research, I need these pickups specifically because of my research. Yes. Ok so what electronics do I need and what do I wire to what. I want a single volume control and single tone control for the entire guitar. Thanks
  16. So how do they stay in the same place? They aren't secured at all, how do they attach to the posts? Sorry to be a newbie but I'm fitting one on a guitar I'm building and am very stuck for what shape I need to route etc...
  17. Thanks for the pickup advice but what is there is there. There's a good reason for them being there. If possible is it able run both 2nd and 4th positions as two whole humbuckers (EMG and Gibby in 2nd position and Gibby and SH-4 in 4th) or is that not able to be done?
  18. Nah from what I'm gathering it's going to change outputs and stuff so it's too hard
  19. Ok I hope that's as simple as it is. I've never built a guitar full stop before, so basically I'm trying to customize something that I don't even know how to build standard! So I'm a little nervous.
  20. I case you haven't noticed the other crap I've been posting, I'm building a Rhoads V for a school project with pickups as follows: Bridge: EMG-HZ (EMG-H4) Middle: Gibson 498T Neck: Seymour Duncan SH-4 I will have one overall volume control and one overall tone control. I just want a simple 5-Way pickup selector and if it's any extra info, I'm using a gold floyd rose. I don't want the pickup selector up the top of the guitar, I want it down the bottom like you find on fenders etc. Is anyone able to help explain the electronics involved and mentor me in creating a diagram, (I don't ask you to do it, just aid me in making one please). I know I've been annoying you guys a lot recently but you are very knowledgable and helpful so again any help would be really appreciated.
  21. Yeah ok thanks. I've got a guitar with a floyd, I'm not a complete idiot, well... anyway... Just the actual mounting I was a bit unsure about, how it's screwed down and still pivots. I understand the springs and all very easily.
  22. Bit of a newbie question but if someone could help explain it would be greatly appreciated.
