Duncan Antiquities. A friend of mine turned me on to them, and after i got a set of humbuckers, he said he put the same in his 1962 ES-335 and liked them more than the original pickups. P-90s provide the sauce in my project, and i am more than happy.

i have an old Electra MPC that i got for $150. http://projectguitar.ibforums.com/index.ph...mp;#entry346198 It will put your custom USA 1957-re-issue-vos-masterbuilt-humbucking-tribucking-metamechanical-dish-washing-autotuning-self-playing les paul on a run for its money. Electras are one of the most underated guitars on this planet; I found that the rotary switch has all the perfect settings. Admittedly I cant find any mpc modules so I dont have any opinion on that. i think its the best les paul style guitar I have played, all the tone and "cool points" are the electra mpc lines. i have a question directed to anyone.... why are relics only on fender guitars? (well practically all are) I havent seen any gibson or prs relics ever. although i usually dislike relicing, these look so natural i originally thought they really were from the 60's! nice work, keep posting.

I remember seeing the weight of the tuners somewhere else as well. have i heard that lighter tuners decrease sustain? why would gibson and tronical make lighter tuners when weight at the headstock affects sustain in a positive way?

I think that those lone stars are pretty nice. A friend of mine says he found the sound with one, he swears by it.

yea, the cherry is sick, id say it has a more medium tone in between mahogany and maple. Dont worry, Geo, ive got a hot rod deluxe with week old tubes Grrrr i had to "go to work" today so the sound clip will be possibly tomorrow :edit: it actually has the slightest flaming right below the 8th fret. it sort of swirls around a central mark. Definitely my favorite spot on the entire instrument

well of course i showed it off to the folks at skool, (oh man, people were coming from all stretches of campus to see it) and everyone wants to make one now . Actually, for my next build, i want to make a thinlineish jazz guitar. (maybe put in a bridge pup and have a two pickup jazz guitar). the finish will prolly be nitro, but it will be shot to eliminate that buildup (gloss black ftw) One of my teachers is actually making a semi hollow right now, he messed up the first time, and he is taking a year to finish this one but im going to push him through Sound clip will come as promised!

yea yea yea after about forever of building its actually done, finished a couple weeks ago. sounds incredible, will post a clip whenever. the neck is super quick, all nice and slim and such. i have a little fret buzz to deal with, and the high E string buzzes to a dampening when played open. i sorta fixed the problem by raising the action, but i wouldn't mind a clearly ringing e string. every once and a while i 'fall off' the neck on the high e string as well, but not bad for a 14 year old right? oh yea, the brushed on nitro finish isnt the prettiest ive seen, but its nice. Neck: Cherry Body: Mahogany Fingerboard: Indian Rosewood Truss Cover and Pick guard: Grenadillo? Tuners: Gotoh 510s (those things are sick) Bridge: Adjustable Wraparound Pickups: Seymour Duncan Antiquity P-90s (oh man those are REAL nice) Other stuff: Aluminum inlay dots, 24 fret (two octave) fingerboard, ivory inlay, brass nut and accent piece. The entire guitar was designed by me, from the shape of the neck, to the design of the inlay, and was built by my father and i this summer. grah. i used brush lacquer (that deft stuff from lowes), and it is impossible to flatten without making it super thin. everything on my current project looks liek crap because the lacquer was so uneven.

17lbs! Jeez! i was thinking of doing one myself for a next project, but 17lbs seems like a LOT. i want to make one all acrylic, but i cant figure out a way to get the truss rod in without adding a non clear? glue joint. i mean how cool would it be to have a fender style fingerboard, all one piece, and you could see through onto your hand. man that would be cool....

i dont think telecaster basses have bridge pickups. if they do, they are not that close to the bridge. Looking on ebay, i found some in two seconds. are you trying to make a bass with a guitar bridge?

well i think if she is going to be your WIFE, i dont think it matters if it looks liek a squire. (ok, maybe thats a little too far...) I think that no matter what you do, she will love it, just put the effort in and she will tell. i think that sunburst idea would be sick though...

i really think youd be ok to make a lefty body. ive never bound anything, but its loads easier than a neck. id say make a body and then get the rest from a kit...

a 1982 Electra MPC 940. that thing cooks, i use when i play with fingers (yes, i do play guitar with fingers). its got that sweet paulish type of tone, a little brighter i believe. for slide i use a telecaster deluxe qmt, it gets the job done. hopefully the guitar i finish sooner or later will blow those two out the water, but i cant have my expectations too high... yea and speaking of the whole metal thing, i never got the whole ibanez deal either. could someone explain? im guessing they are fun and easy to mod?

How many coats should i put on then? i always dry sand between coats, but i take off all the top layer of lacquer. it seems like the lacquer is soooooo thin, and on samples that have 2 coats on them, it looks like a thick coat. Should i just keep doing what i am doing, or should i brush on coats whithout sanding in between. If i am supposed to sand, what grit should i start on and what grit should i end on? i know this prolly sounds really stupid, but i take out all the major stuff with 400 and i rub everything until it doesnt shine with 1000 steel wool. On the buffing, is it just a light pass or should i spend the same amount of time buffing as i do sanding?

Grrr.... ive been slowly putting on coats of lacquer like a mad scientist, and i finnally got i think 7 coats of lacquer (brushed on), and i went to wet sand it for buffing and went right through in a few spots, especially the edges of the headstock. i practiced buffing it anywho, and got the hang of it. my dad couldnt help me with any of this, he doesnt know a thing about finishing. i guess i shouldnt have sanded for so long. i think i might just hit the spots i sanded through with another coat or two, and give it another go. anyone against? btw, i dont have as many on the body, i had to sand down the sealer coat because of a nail in the table i started to buff out the pickguard and trussrod cover, and im almost done with the pickguard and i finished the trussrod cover

i got it for $150 at a pawn shop. i might replace teh brass nut with a bone one, but im not sure. thanks for the info anyways. It does stay in tune quite well, the only problem is the gig bag i got with it, im used to a hardshell, and every time i put it in there it throws it out of tune.
