  1. http://my.execpc.com/~nostberg/ this link is excellent
  2. Is it wise to use TB 2 as glue? I was told it is the wrong type because it creeps (move)at the glue joint. It is suppose to be for outside, so it never dry hard.
  3. pre drill size was good.one pilot size plus one of the right size after that. The screw snap so clean that the brake look polish,no edge on it.some very cheap metal like those decoration hardware in wall-mart.not for real work like holding a bridge. Thanks for the reasurance with the bridge, and it is stainless or stew mac ,what ever i found in "rona" her( same as home hardware) will lead the way.
  4. I am building myself a nice bass, mahagany body ,maple-walnut neck, everything is fine up to the point where i need to installed the bridge, easy, just pre-drill and installed.Well not so easy, the bridge i got is from ebay, very affordable, not to say cheap, look good, gold .As soon a i start to screw it in, one of the screw just pop,it snap on me.Fortunatly it is sticking out so i can get it out.But now i have a probleme, Is the bridge itself the same type of metal, and will it destroyed itself on instalation, or on string instalation ,do i take the risk, plus the maching head are from the same place.Do i take a chance?
  5. wow,My little shop is just starting old DW Radial arm saw(love it but i read some scary story with those so very slow learning ,taking my time so i don't loose something) dremel hand tools, lots of hand tools router ,table small drill press hand tool, again. small compressor, paint gun,the same as benedetto. more hand tool, love those I need a dust control system, but here winter will be coming soon so,since i have no heating i move my hand tools inside and use a local woodworking club for power tool, painting and more and just wait for spring 2005,,,,, in MAY for us here up north.
  6. well i was looking at some emg select.cheap and emg is suppose to be good.Well i read on this and the opinion are very mix and i would said that mostly it is bad. So now i a looking at SD Lightin' Rods™ for Jazz Bass( active pu) or Bartolini model #9J pickup set for USA Fender Jazz bass or similar, passive pu. close in price .way more than i was expecting .I will only order them after i try the bass ,if it play nice (first bass project),then it will be worth it if not ,maybe back to the emg. What are the view on those.
  7. Well ,i am at the point of chosing a pu for my new mahagany body ,maple/walnut /maple neck. First i should say that i am looking for a 'the who' type of bass sound. second, i am not extremely rich,so one pu, maybe tow but need to be affordable. third it is my first bass so no active electronic, too hard for a first try. so be gentle with your suggestion and give me all that you could think off.
  8. Interesting, but i do wonder about burning wood.
  9. remember too that the grain is bookmatch, not the figure. And quilt or flame may not match from one inch to another whithin the wood planck. But i must admite that the bookmatching on some of those picture is off by a lot.PRS is mass produce mainly by machine i gess ,it would be far more precise bookmatching using just your eyes and skill.
  10. I have it ,but it take a very stable platform to use it . since a don't ,i use it mainly to taper up to 1/16 of the dimention i need and finish with a plane,i have more than one.Easyer but a well tune plane is a must.I learn some time ago that a tool usually require a good tunning when first aquired.
  11. Shellac is great ,it will seal the wood and protec it ,plus the scratch will be still there for a long time .benedetto use it to seal the inside of is achtop.easy ,safe and compatible with most of the finish existing.I use it as a sanding sealer before finishing.just mix it yourself.better than the pre mix type.
  12. I am now learning about and building a hollow body like a rick 360 ,but eventualy, next years, i want to buid a archtop like a 6120 gretsch. So i am pilling up a lot of info ,I still like to learn why a classic archtop is made of spure for the top and a gretsch is maple.
  13. I used a carvin neck, and i found it excelent. But here we have nafta so it is very cheap to get it to canada, duty free .
  14. check this pages http://www.gretschguitars.com/terada/ http://www.gretschguitars.com/scans/ image a worth a lot in there
  15. Usually Gibson LP, SG have a 12 r,strat, tele have a 9 1/2 radius(not a 100% sure with the tele), except some reissue or vintage that have 7 1/2, rick have 10 radius.OK this is standard, after a fret job every thing may change some ,plus there is other that go to 14,15 16 and plus the comp radius ,9 1/2 at the nut to 12 or more at the end of the fretboard.
  16. I am talking of the humidity level here. It is 50% relative humidity today and it is juste over 0 deg C.So in the summer it can go very high.85% to 90 and more sometime at 30 to 35% c(rare but it does happend .One furniture maker told me to build less in the summer, wood stability is very bad.Well wood stability is even more important in guitar making, so do i stop building and take care of my shop, jig ,power tool, BBQ ,lawn, or can i build? And how do i take care of the wood that i allready got.
  17. I am looking for the vintage 60's sound of the rickenbacker 330 or 360. They don't have to look like rick pu ,they just need to sound like or close to rick pu. Is there anybody that could help me there. I am starting a hollow / chamber guitar projet and i trying to find the right combination of wood (maple) / hardware(still thinking) /pu to get that sound ,it is not easy, but it is shully fun to do .
  18. did that ,tested id( i love hide glue) and everything is now fine Thanks
