  1. If you decide not to post it here, and if it doesn't bother you too much, could you please send it my way?? v8_346ci@hotmail.com
  2. http://earthman.org/bbq/index.htm Jem BBQ
  3. I love the big chunk of metal on the OFR that replaced my Lo-TRS. Before i made a decision on the FR Pro or OFR, i played an axe that was Edge fitted. I liked the fine tuner hump, so i went for the OFR.
  4. I know its a fender thing, but id like to try it on my RG. Lots of people love that feature. Ive seen a diagram on another forum (Seymour Duncan forum) on how it can be done; its here: http://www.greatelk.com/betasite/navbar2/i...mages/frets.gif Do you think i could pull this off with a bit of sandpaper and just simply mask off the frets? <edit> I got bored, and thought "ah what the hell, you cant go wrong" and grabbed a file and sandpaper. Done 12 frets on one side of the fretboard, i think its great!
  5. and now, im stone broke. I wont be able to use the new trem posts until i get access to the drill press at school next friday, but even with the old posts, withotu even having a chance to plug in, it sustains a lot better acoustically. lol, im way too happy, just had to share it somewhere!!
  6. last night, my band played 3 covers as part of a school rock band show. Didnt turn out too well. First two songs (which were significantly easier) turned out OK, but the 3rd song (the trooper by iron maiden) wasnt as good as it could have been. During the solo, we kind of fell apart (with my friend playing rhythm, and me playing lead), although we managed to get it back together again towards the end. Ive narrowed it down to the following factors: 1. lack of practise. we were given one week notice for this show, and only managed to find time for 1 practise session. we had never actually played the trooper before, and i hadnt had enough time to properly learn the solo, so it was just improvised bits for most of it. Im not that good at improvising; ive only been playing for 2 years so ive got a long way to go. The rhythm player, no offense, just kinda sucks, although hes a good friend of mine, hes not very musical. 2. Lack of stage monitors. We simply couldnt hear ourselves properly. we didnt do a soundcheck, since the idiots who played before us used the mesa dual caliber for clean and ran a pedal into it, so i had to muck about with the settings afterwards. Had to turn up the master 3 times during the performance. Still, i couldnt hear the rest of my band properly, let alone hear myself properly. (on a sidenote, the mesa gave up the ghost right after our performacne, so i was lucky!!) 3. Lack of live experience. wed only played live 2 times before this, and this was hte first time with our new drummer, so were still in the stage of learning. 4. Beer. The whole band, with the exception of the drummer had an average of one can each, and i had a little bit of baileys beforehand too. Not a good idea, even though we stopped drinking an hour before the show. (btw, were sort of underaged too ) well, what do you expect when your friend's parents are out leaving a good storage of beer in the fridge?? Just wondering, which of those factors had the biggest influence on our (not so good) performance? Or was it all of em??? I know for sure that im not drinkign beer next time!
  7. Im leaning towards the original more. I figure that what you pay for is what you get, and when the schaller comes for $40 less, i think im going for the original. Besides, i get discounts at my fender dealer. As i mentioned above, my original posts are very worn, so id like to use the new posts. OFR posts wont fit in the TRS posts. They might in teh TRS-II, but the TRS posts are a helluva lot smaller. As for hte old trem, im selling it to a friend for $35. Using it on a bass. Yes, a bass. Dont know what hes been smoking!
  8. Thanks. Getting access to a hand drill isnt too hard, whilst getting access to the drill press would require sucking up to a few teachers at school. Ill give it try
  9. After a few calculations, i figured that ill be able to afford an OFR to replace that god awful Lo-TRS i have right now, in about a month. Ive successfully taken teh trem posts out already, but unfortunately, the hole is only around 7-8mm in diameter. According to warmoht's site, original floyd body anchors need are 9.9mm. Could i file down the hole with a round file to the desired size?? or would i definitely need a drill to do the work? I dont want to use the original posts, as they are quite worn out.
  10. Brian, i posted my measurements of the '02 MIJ RG470 on the "other" board. Measurement C is wrong. I believe i put 75.5mm?? Its actually 74.5mm
  11. If i was allowed to get a job, I'd get one too. My parents believe that studying is the most important thing, which is why they dont exactly support my guitar playing, nor will they let me get a job. My dad gives me crap for buying strings for Gods sake, he reckons its a waste of money. Wait until he finds out i spent the cash putting in a new pickup... I guess Ive been a little ungrateful with what I have at the moment, sorry bout that. Lifes been hard on me lately, parents putting real pressure on my studies. They expect me to get at least 1/2 A's at my GCSEs, and yeah, Im done for. Mock exams start on monday, and ive jsut found out im missing 30% of my chemistry work... Rob, youre a good musician, and you have my respect for it. Thanks man. Its just that Ive been hanging around with too many rich asses lately...
  12. Thanks guys. Well, I dont think my parents are gonna appreciate me dealing with some "stranger on the internet", but thanks for your offer anyways.
  13. Thanks man, that helped. The problem is that most of the guitar players i know which are my age have much better gear, multiple axes, etc. I need some help controlling my financial spending, its amazing how quickly i can spend whatever money I get. Last time i got a summer job, and got HK$1 grand for it, $125US. $500 went to tickets to a Satch concert, $200 went for a few pack of strings, and i spent the rest of it paying my parents back for money that they lent me earlier on. I know a guy whos a year older than me, who has a few strats, an ibanez, and a marshall half stack. Another guy had a budget of HK$20000, $2500US for a new guitar. Surprsingly, instead of choosing a guitar that was expensive, he went for an EDR470, simply because it looked nice.... I guess jealousy is the key thing?? btw, the satch concert was great, and was worth every buck i paid for!
  14. I need new gear All I've got right now, is an RG470 w/ Duncan Distortion, a Boss OS-2, and a marshall 10W SS practise amp. Im 15, been playing for nearly 2 years, and I have to pay for all my gear from the allowance I get. Santa/Daddy doesnt buy me any gear for Christmas either! At the moment, I really need a new amp. The 10watts of solid state power easily gets drowned by the otehr gear at band practises, even though i play lead for my band. I guess our bassist has the worst amp though, hes got a brandless 10W amp, but at least we can still hear him! Im a real poor kid, I dropped my cell phone in a taxi a month ago, so I have to fork out some cash to pay for it. That cash was originally going to go towards an OFR to replace the Lo-TRS on my 470, but well, no OFR for me anymore! I dont have a job, because my parents believe i should be focusing on my studies, which means i live on their allowance of 200 Hong Kong Dollars, ($25US) a week. Thats only on school days, becuase they only feel obliged to pay me 300 HK Dollars ($37.50 US) a MONTH in the holidays. Which explains why I can hate the holidays quite a bit as well! I need to use my allowance to pay for food, movies with the girls, starbucks, etc, which basically leaves me with a flat wallet. Biggest problem yet: My ears are really tone sensitive, I picked up my first instrument (the violin) when i was 6, so Ive got 9 years of aural training. The new pickup in my 470 help a bit, especially when plugged into the school's Mesa, but its not often I get to use it. I dont really like the tone coming out of it, but this is due to the fact that I havnt had enough time to play with the settings and EQ it properly. But everytime I get home, i complain about my tone. My guitar is in need of rewiring, with new pots etc. The soldering is pretty crap (bear in mind, i installed my pickups myself, and Ive got very little experience in soldering. Local guitar shop said theyd charge me $25US for each pickup installed, i told them "NO F***ING way" and did it myself at home) I find its really hard for me to work the iron properly in such cramped space. Accidentally broke the wire off the output jack, and its stuck on temporarily with electrical tape. Havnt got time to resolder it back on yet. Im planning to completely rewire it with new pickup selector, tone and volume pots, and shield it with my mums aluminium foil. But all that equates to even more money (whcih i dont have) Why did God make me so poor?? Ive got no bank account anymore (emptied it last july buying the RG), Ive got $200HK Dollars in my wallet ($25US) and I owe my parents 1 HK grand for my phone, which would be $125US. Still need to survive the rest of the Christmas/New year holidays, somehow... *end of rant, more to come later*
