As far as the grounding, I definitely grounded it. Is it possible for it to have a bad ground? Where is the best place to ground? I have always used the volume pot with great results. I find it difficult to distinguish which coil is activated when I tap on them with a screwdriver. They are insuch close proximity. Some pickups, it is easy for me to tell, others not so much. This guitar has the Ibanez V series pickups. The bridge definitely has the power of a series humbucker in the first position. It's not 4 conductor, so it's not like I could wire it out of phase, right?

I have been assembling an Ibanez RG570 from spare parts. I wired the pickups like they should be. All the coil tapping works, but I get hum in 2 positions. Position 1, Bridge series hums Position 2, Inner Bridge and middle single coil hums Position 3 Hums, but that is because it is a single coil Position 4 half neck and middle in parallel No hum Position 5 Neck Series No hum I have also run into this same kind of hum when coil tapping two humbuckers together. How can this be fixed.?

Cool, Stereo jack wouldn't hurt anything if it is auto detect, I guess. Does anybody know if a regular 500K pot is up to the task of volume for both. If not do they make the proper rated pot in a push/pull setup?

Ok here is my desired result and here is what I am planning on using: Ibanez RG 321 Ghost piezo saddles (stewmac) acousti-phonic preamp (stewmac) push pull pot I want the 5 way switch to control the mags. When the push pull is lifted, the mags shut off and the piezo comes on. The mags and piezo will share the same mono jack. I would like them to both be controlled by the same volume knob, but I could use the push pull for piezo volume if necessary and forego the tone control (Who really uses it anyway? not me.) So, here are my questions: 1) Do I have to use the preamp? Will it sound okay without it? 2) Is the volume pot suitable for performing a master volume function? 3)Since the ghost system has saddles with a center mounted screw, it should fit on tyhe RG321's bridge, correct? 4) Instead of having the piezo power turned on when a cable is plugges in, can I wire it to come on when the push/pull is engaged? I think that is all, thanks for teh guidance.

That dude is totally yanking you. If you look in your 3rd pic. You can read the tag. It says BB whatever....that is a yamaha model and then it says yellow natural, which is oretty much the color that we see. I don't think he did anything at all. He is just trying to mess with you guys. I guess it worked. hahahaha

Do you guys take any special precautions between grits? Do you rinse the body with water? or just a careful wipe?

Good to know. Thanks. As far as adding some color, woudl the stew mac stains do the trick? I already have some reds from them. Now I'm kinda excited to get working with the stuff. I though ti would be a pain since you don't see it all that often.

Am I the only one that had yellowing with the mini wax spray finish? Is there a particualr one that remains clear? I loved the hardness and ability to buff, but the yellowing killed it for me. Suggestions?

Allright, so my friend and I are building a neck through out of mahogany with a Walnut top. I have never cleared over either type of wood, so I need some suggestions and things to look out for. I hear that walnut can be oily. Any recomendations on how to handle that? How about grain fillers for both woods, anything I can pick up at the local hardware store would be nice. SO I imagine I will have to grain fill, then seal, then clear...is that correct? Thanks for the help.

How do you guys spray multiple coats in a day and still get proper curing? If I try to do more than one coat a day, my finished product will be a really soft finish. I'm in california, the weather doesn't get much drier. I spray rattle can poly's from the hardware store mostly. Any suggestions on a nice fast hard clear poly?

I have similar issues. I like thick coats of clear. I recently built a guitar for a friend. He wanted it sooner than I was ready for it to be played. I told him just to be careful. It was ok if you just played it. Well, he left it in a gig bag in his hot car all day (So Cal right now is pretty hot). Now it has impressions all over it. So I guess I'll be doing some more wet sanding and buffing. errrrrrrr Here' what I learned: When spraying poly, keep it to one light coat per day. I used to try to double coat. I think that is easier with nitro. Wait a whole day for each coat to dry. I would coat twice a day when doing double coats before. Bad idea. Then I tried twice a day with single coats....still bad. Now I just do a single coat each day. It takes longer to paint, but it takes less time to dry. I would still wait a month to be safe. Deft is Nito if I remember correctly...right? What brand clear were you using?

Black Knight, I did alright on the sale. I think had I been more confident with the asking price, I could have gotten more. It played very well and looked killer. No sake in being greedy, though. I just loved making it and owning it for that short while.

So an explosion proof fan is the better alternative. Where can I find an inexpensive one?

Black Knight- Sorry it took me so long. I haven't had much of a chance to get on the forums. So you're taking it to a finishing shop for the clear coats and buffing? What type of clear are thye going to use? AMDmonster- Cool man, thanks for bidding. I might have another one up in a month or so. I bought that one as a project. I really wanted to keep it, but my girlfriend made me sell it since I have too many guitars already. It was tough to sell it, but I know I can make more. I'm doing a blue type swirl but it utilizes darker hues than what I have seen elsewhere. I am doing it on a 570 with the all access joint. It looks pretty good. SInce it is my guitar I am not sure if I want to sell it or not. I kinda like the idea of thinning out my guitar collection, so it might be up for sale we'll see.

Here are some pics of my first swirl..... It just happens to be similar to a GMC, I put a little whit in for effect. I am very pleased with the way it came out. I like very complex swirls. I am not a fan of large sections of color. Would this unit work okay as a dust collector for my spray booth? http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/Disp...temnumber=45378 I want to capture all the over spray and blowing it to my neighbor's house is unacceptable.

WIll a newer Ibanez Edge Pro or Edge Pro II or Edge III fir in an older routing for an Edge, lo pro edge, or TRS-II tremolo??? Also would it fir any of those post spacings. Idealy I am trying to figure out if it can be a direct replacement for any of these tremolos with out doweling or routing.

my sags PRS kit is cool, except that it didn't have the truss rod cover...and the wood comes pre-sealed....bummer

I would just spray it with clear rattlecan paint form depot. spray- spray- wetsand (600 grit) spray- spray- wetsand (600 grit) as many times as desired (I'd do at least 3 passes). then you can get a good polishing compound. Stewart Macdonald.com has some good stuff, but it is expensive na dyou will barely use any for one guitar. Someone else might know of a cheaper polish. You can always get some wet sand papers up to like 10,000 grit that would be cheaper.

Oh you are building it, i thought it was just something you had purchased. Well yeah, definitely do a trigger switch, it would be too cool. Or if that doesn't work you could make a safety/fire switch into a pickup selector. Or maybe a semi-auto to 3 round burst to full auto switch. (Both would be rotary style)

Did you check it yet? I'm curious. There has to be a switch on there.

Yea, the thought that the pickups might all be the same crossed my mind aswell, but i tried it when i was bored one day to see if it made a difference, and found the bridge had a much deeper sound to it afterwards, so it doesnt sound anywere near as thin or brittle as it used to. It could just be my imagination, but it took all of 30 seconds to do while i was changing the strings, no soldiering or re wiring involved, and it sounds better to me so who cares . ← Ok, you would no better. Like I said I wasn't sure if they'd be all the same. But, it's good to know that they are wound differently, that is cool. So now the neck sounds thinner and the bridge is fatter? just curious
