  1. Not really in the realm of building a new guitar, but any help would be appreciated! I am not sure of the best way, electrical signal speaking, to hookup all my effects. I have a Ross Compressor, a TS9 Tubescreamer reissue, Boss chorus pedal, Crybaby wah, and a digital tuner. And no real clue on the order to hook these up! Just looking for some expert help on finding the best loop to use for these. Thanks alot! Rones
  2. Try something outside the box, like manlius guitar pickups. I ordered a set, and they are very nice. No muddyness and good price... Handwound and custom made to my specs!
  3. I tried a set of Manlius Guitar Pickups via manliusguitar.com. custom, hand-scatterwound. Really clear muddless tone, I was very pleased with them and the price. I just got tired of the lack of uniqueness to Duncans, but again, those are just my ears. Rones
  4. thank you, thank you ...!
  5. Okay, I have two humbuckers in, and I think the magnet on one is backwards. I know I could flip the magnet around to fix this, but since I already have them installed and do not feel like taking em out again, can I just swap the green ground wire for the black hot wire on one of the pickups? I think this will eleviate the problem by swithcing the wires and thus reversing the field, but am not entirely sure of this. Any thoughts or ideas? Rones
  6. This one I haven't had before... Wired up a five way strat selector with two HB, both with 4 way wire to split the coils. Postions 1 is the Bridge, Position 2 is the bridge/neck, Postion 3 is the neck, 4 is the neck split, 5 is the birdge split. Problem is, everything is working except position 1! thought maybe it was soldered poorly, but it checks out with an ohm tester. switched around the bridge and neck to test again, once more, no sound in position 1! Ever come across this? I used the diagram from the project guitar wiring tutorials. Could it be a bad switch? Thanks Rones
  7. check out www.manliusguitar.com for hand-wound vintage spec pickups. Good Stuff
  8. Hey, I make and sell humbuckers and other pickups as a side, little fun job! I have some zebra bobbins, check out my webpage, www.manliusguitar.com . There are prices listed, but maybe we can work out a deal or something if you are on a limited budget. Some money off for sound samples maybe (i just don't play as well as I'd like!). If your interested, email me. We can calibrate them perfect to your taste, and I can ship them in a couple of days. Not trying to promote my side job, just trying to give you something better than what your interested in! If you are interested, email me. mick@manliusguitar.com Rones
  9. But what if all I got lying arond is the five way and reall want to wire it up today! Any ideas? thanks Rones
  10. Hi I am putting a couple of humbuckers into a strat pickguard I have that accepts them. I understand how to wire if they were with a 4 way conductor lead wire, but they have the vintage push back wire. How does this sound? I ran the lead wires, grounding the braid, to the first two positions of the selector switch. I beleive I will only get to use the first 3 postions. In essence just position 1 neck, 2 blend, 3 bridge. (When I turned it on, no sound, maybe a wire came undone or something. Not sure, it was too late to try to fix it!. I think it will work!) Does this sound alright? Or any better ideas. I can't find a diagram in the schematics section to aid me. Thanks for all the help Rones
  11. Typical five way strat, i believe. Grounds from each pickup to the star ground. Trem claw to star ground. Tone pots to star ground. Hot pickups to each corresponding notch on switch. Ground wire and hot wire to jack. Cap on tones and grounded to tone pot. Treble bleed on volume pot, not grounded. That is about it, very confusing, never heard one get louder when touched! Thanks Rones
  12. So i have been re -wiring this strat guitar, and have come across something I never have before (granted, not that much experience!). I am getting some serious noise, but only when something metal is touched. does not go away when the strings are touched. Completely opposite of what I normally hear? For instance, no knobs on yet, so touch the pot pole pieces, then buzz. Touch the bridge, buzz. Touch pickups, no buzz. Touch pickguard above controls, buzz. Have run ground from bridge to star, tone tone to star. output jack grounded to star I am using cloth wire, but have before without this. Only thing i can think of is either I have wire the jack wrong, or the pickups are bad. But when I play em, they play fine, just with alot of noise! Any leads out there? Thanks Rones
  13. LoveKraft- I noticed that thesingle coil is actually a double stacked single coil, so in essence a humbucker, right? Should I attach the red/white wires to the black to increase output? Can't raise the pole pieces, unfortunately... Still very weak in the output area... Rones
  14. LoveKraft- sorry about the delay in response... The middle single coil is the quiet pickup, and the pole pieces sit almost under the cover. Is it possible to raise the poles from the bottom of the pickup individually? The wiring schematic you set up for me worked awesome, it is really smooth. I really appreciate the help you've given me. Thanks, and i'll try to put up a picture soometime in the near future. Rones
  15. LoveKraft- I am still losing volume and I think that all my grounding is good, they are all tight and snug. The front pickup is the loudest, then the middle is less loud, then the bridge is even less loud.... hmmmm. Any new ideas? Rones
  16. LoveKraft- I noticed that I may have had the wires from the jack in the wrong order. So i switched the ground and the wire to volume, and.... It worked, for the most part! The only thing I noticed was the neck and bridge pickup are much quieter than the middle pickup. The only thing I couldthink of as the root of the problem would be poor solder joints on the neck and bridge pups. Does this sem logical, or should I look in another direction. It is not the pickups, because they have the same outputs, roughly. they are seymour Duncans, the Jazz in the neck, JB4 in the bridge and the classic stack single coil/ hum canceller in the middle. Again, Thanks! rones
  17. I am getting no signal to the amp when i plug in, must have wired something wrong! hehe... My mini toggles are all 0n/off/on, would this alter my wiring arrangement? I didn't think that it should, but really don't know. I ran a shielded wire from the jack to the middle connector on the volume, then another to the star ground on the volume pot. Ran the tone into the right connector of the volume pot. Have all grean wires grounded, as well as the master ground into the bridge post. Should I ground the humbucker lead shield wires as well? Not sure if that will effect the signal, though. Have a conncector wire from middle of the toggles into the left volume slot. All hot (black wires) connected to the toggles as well. Any idea what may be confronting me as an issue? Must be something with my volume pot or my toggles, no? thanks again Rones
  18. LoveKraft- Should I ground the soldered green/white wires or should I leave them free standing? I think I am getting the hang of it! Again, thanks for your help... Rones
  19. LoveKraft- What would be a standard tone setup? Just wire the volume into the tone, with a cap? The cap, if i am not mistaken, should go with the tone, right? Am a little cofused b/c this is my first project! Thanks for all the info... rones
  20. Well, was about ready to wire my project. I am using three Duncan pickups, a single and two HB, but the single is wired like a HB. I need to send these each to there own switch (mini toggle on/off/on). I believe I know how to wire to the switches, but was wondering if I need to wire the switches to each other to make them functional? Also, When I run the pickup wire to the vol pot, where should I soldier each individual pickups wire? What is the best method for connecting the vol pot to the tone pot, then to the jack? I am using a shotgun jack, unfortunately I hear, because that is all my layout wil allow! Any information will be greatly appreciated, as I find myself somewhat lost on an aspect of my project I thought would be easy! rones
  21. Hey all So I am ready towire up my guitar, but I have never wired anything EVER in the past! So if ya'll could give me some pointers on how to wire this etup, t'would be much appreciated. Its a H/S/H setup, but all pickups are 4 wire (red, black, green, white) Seymour duncans (Jazz/double stack single coil/SB4). Each pickup is to have its own mini switch for on off. They are on/off/on. Each switch has six connectors on the bottoms. They will then feed into a master volume and master tone switch, then to the Jack. HAve minor understansing of connecting the pickups to the switches, but am lost from there. Do I need to connect all switches together?, and How do I feed these through to the pots? and where does the cap go on the tone pot? I am confused! I know there is alot of info here, but if you have any ideas, I would appreciate em! Thanks Rones
  22. One more question here I did a coupla coats of Grain Filler, and it has left the guitar somewhat darker than it previously was. Should I sand all the way down to the dull color of the wood, or leave it at this state for applying the sanding sealer? Just curious. Also, what would ya'll suspect is the best way to spray a neck through guitar. Should I suspend it in the air with ropes through the pegholes? Or lay it flat and do each coat in stages, like fron, back, sides, etc... thanks! Rones
  23. Thanks for the detailed help, I appreciate it. I have a rosewood fretboard on a mahogany/walnut/mahogany neck through guitar, with the body wings being walnut. thanks again Rones
  24. Just wondering froma ll ya'll experts out here... Do you finish your fretboards first, say with a fretboard finishing oil, before spraying the guitar and doing the fret leveling and dressing? Just curious. Also, hows this sound.... for the body) 1 Grain fill and sand 2 one coat (or two) lacquer 3 sanding sealer 4 lacquer coats 5 sealer, etc etc 6 wet sand and buff to finish Should I sand (lightly?) the lacquer b/w coats, or just keep piling it on? In depth question here, any help much appreciated! rones
