    hey thanks guys. and yeah a sense of humour goes a long way in this world! i guess what my main concern is can u stain and paint all on the same guitar? my plans were to have it black around the outside like a sunburst and red on the inside getting darker as u go out. im going to try your method brian and stain then paint then clear and see how it looks and ill post a pic here and let everyone see it. thanks again , seth

    hey guys, been a while, but ive got an old charvell of unknown origin that had the gayest finish u ever seen. ( looked good in the big hair days of the 80's though!) ive gotten it all prepped and sanded and pretty much ready to go, and this is gonna be my first time doin a finish of any type. what i had in mind was the burnt finish and im gonna do the flames deal with the tin foil off the tutorial, and i was hoping to do a sun burst as well. so basiclly its gonna look really light and red in the center, but with the wood grain, and flames, and as it goes out it will get darker, till it goes to black on the outsides. im just wondering if this is doable and if there are any tips on stain selection, or if anyone has done this type finish before. i have no idea what kind of wood it is but the grain looks good thanks a lot for any input! seth

    thanks guys, i did shoot hipshot an email about building me a custom bridge with a tremelo, but have not heard back from them yet. as far as rig goes i think that adding a 2 15 cabis going to be the route im taking and ill see how it turns out. im wondering about bertoline pu's, do you have any contact info on them? other wise im probably going with emg actives thanks again,,,,seth

    hey guys, i posted a topic on building an 8 string a few days back and have started on my project. my question is to any one who might have allready gotten or built and played an 8 string. i originally contacted conklin about building one for me but there prices where out of my range, for what i wanted, however the guy i spoke to, said that i had better have one hell of a rig to play through, as regular stuff just wouldnt cut it. i currently run through a mesa booghie single rectifier head and cab. any suggestions? thanks, seth

    thanks jammy, i just got done surfing the web and found hipshot an a bunch of other places. also shamray in russia looks like a competent builder and pretty resonable on prices. i origanaly contacted conklin about building one for me and just about had a heart attack! it was like 5 or 6 thousand and several monthes time. i am going to try to build one, or i should say make a 7 string into an 8 string just to see if that will work, before i build one from scratch, and i will let every one know how it turns out. if it does work good ill build one and have some of the components build for it. ive never really used any thing but emgs, so im kinda scared to try anything else. does any one make a good metal pickup that doesnt have too mch hiss or feedback, and any recomendations on a good single coil.

    Wow, you guys know ur stuff! i appreciate the help too. the guitar is going to be used for metal, so i would like to have pickups that would be better suited for that style. i have an american bcrich iron bird, that i have active emgs and really like the tone, and was leaning towards them if possible. i really would like to make 8 fit to a 7 because i really dont want to get any thicker than a 7 string neck if possible. i am new at this so im sure are some basics i dont have yet but im trying to gobble up as much info as i canbefore i start cutting wood jammy do you have any contact info or web adds for some of the places you mentioned. also i had a limited edition usa charvel a while back that was made of african mohogany with active emgs that i really loved, do you think afr. mohogany would be a good choice for this. thanks again seth

    hey guys, im new here, and this may sound crazy, but im trying to build an 8 string from scratch. the thing is i want to build it within the dimensions of a 7 string, you know, basicly fit 8 strings on a 7 string neck, and use 7 string pickps, etc. the only major holdup is the bridge. I cant play without a tremelo, does anyone know someway, or someone that can build one, and does this idea seem like it will work? thanks for any help seth
