  1. Well, I didn't mean to start an e-war! Anyway, here is a link to the pics. It's a strange one. Like a combination of an SG special with P-90s and an SG custom headstock that's white. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/ebayISAPI.dll?ViewI...item=3718597379 Ever seen anything like it??
  2. I'm looking to buy and restore an old SG custom or special. It's an odd guitar. It has P-90's but has a Gibson custom headstock with the typical Gibson custom inlays. However, the veneer is whitish to natural colored. I have never seen a custom headstock with anything other than a black veneer. Has anyone ever seen anything like this before? Thanks, John
  3. I'm refinishing my first guitar, and am trying to find a good clear lacquer to use. I'm going to do it in nitro and wondering if anyone has used Deft brand from hardware stores. A friend has a gallon of it in gloss that i could use for free. Don't want to use it if it's junk though! Any insight is appreciated!
  4. I'm looking for something I don't even know exists: a triple pole, double throw push pull pot. The pot could be 250k or 500k. I'd like to control 2 functions with a single switch and that's the only way i see possible. Has anyone ever seen anything like this? If so, where can I get one?
  5. Ok, I get it now. How can I wire the tone knob direct to the output jack? Not sure how that circuit would work. Do you have a schematic you could email, or know where i can get it? Thanks! John jmoczydl@su.edu
  6. (Standard 2hum 1vol 1tone setup - your master tone will affect all three pickups.) If i use mid alone, and cut neck and bridge, i will have no tone control, right? (You don't need phase switching - simply split the hums so you use the coil phased opposite your single coil. It will be fully hum cancelling when you roll in the middle pickup.) But it wouldn't be hum cancelling using bridge and neck with coils split if i wired it that way, right? I don't think i need phase switching, but I am figuring on wiring up a switch as a coil select for one of the pups to remedy this. Hmm...
  7. Thanks to all who have replied. I guess I need the high gloss Parks or McFaddens in the gloss. Where can I get those?
  8. I am pretty much set on having a middle pup vol knob. If i put it as a master with on/off, i'd lose control of that setting with mid only. I found a diagram on Seymour Duncan's website for a tele with a 3rd pup blend that seemed almost like what I want, only I'm not sure that the diagram will allow for tone control of the mid pup.
  9. I am working on a strat with mini-humbuckers at bridge and neck and single in mid. I don't like using a 5-way switch, since i mostly play my les paul. I have an idea for wiring, but if anyone has any additional ideas they'd be appreciated! What i want is... 1. neck(humbucking) 2. neck and bridge 3. bridge(humbucking) I'd like to convert the neck tone knob to a volume knob for mid pup and the mid tone knob to a master tone for all 3 pups. I'm using push pull pots on all 3 so I can split coils and change phasing. With the mid pup on and coils split, i'd like these combinations 1. neck and mid(hum cancelling) 2. all 3 pups 3. bridge and mid(hum cancelling) I realize I'll need to change phasing to get those positions to be hum cancelling as well as hum cancelling with bridge and neck split without mid pup. Anyone have any ideas? Also, where can i learn more about wiring and customizing. I have the Brosnac book "Guitar electronics for Musicians" but I still don't feel like i have a solid grasp on how guitar circuits work or how to create my own wiring ideas and have it work. Hmm...
  10. I'm refinishing a strat and a les paul as project guitars. I'd like to do both in a gloss black nitro. I have access to a HVLP sprayer. Anyone have any advice on where I can get clear nitro lacquer as well as how to do black? Is there much difference between brands of lacquer? Where can I purchase lacquer? Do I add black pigment to the clear for black or can I buy black by itself? That's probably enough questions for now. Thanks to whoever can help.
