  1. yeh, also wenever im playin with my bridge pup in front of my pc my emg 81 goes all ****, r there long term dangers of playing in front of a pc with active pups?
  2. i use everything, i noe wat u dudes r saying "variety is the spice of life" and yeh in this case the differing tones offered by each respective pup is no exclusion to the case in point. however the only reason i brought up the fact everyone is into the bridge pip is because on every pickup website about 70% of the pups offered r intended for the bridge. now back to wat i was saying, i play jazz fusion type stuff ala. shawn lane (well i try but no1 cood ever play like him) and even petrucci's legato tone is orgasmic, can any1 offer any advice about the EMG 60 and 85?? taking into account i do play metal, but its not my desired sound if u get wat i mean. i basically want an active pup thats sensitive and sweet for fast legato passages
  3. yeh i used to b a bridge pickup spam back in the day, but call me a bitch or watever the neck is just more creamy and smooth
  4. does anyone have any sound clips of them?? coz at the EMG website it only has the bridge position i cant understand y every1 prefers to use the bridge, its so twangy and harsh and its got no balls, the only pro's is its harmonic abilities
  5. hey dudes i recently fitted my RG 1570 with an EMG 81 active in the bridge now im a warm sweet, smooth legato man myself and i really only use the neck pup, and ive been in the market lookin to change my stock RG neck pup for sumthin smooth and warm and generally sweet ive been lookin at the EMG 91 Active and i just wanted to noe wat u guys thought of its sound
  6. Hey dudes just fitted my beautiful Ibanez RG 1570 with an EMG 81 Active in the Bridge, come to think of it i dunno y cause i basically hate the twangy weak sound of the bridge pickup, but aside from that its a sweet little humbucker. Now i am a legato player at heart, and im a neck pickups spam, im after a smooth, warm, creamy neck pup for sum sweet, fast neck leads ala holdsworth. Now yes i noe the active would have gayed up the tonal qualities of the neck pup, but im cool with that now im in the market for a new neck pup and ive been directed according to my tastes, towards the Dimarzio Tone Zone, and PAF Pro. Now im electronically retarded, so i dunno about the real technical side of these pickups, but i noe i am after a warm sweet, yet bassy and heavy sound for my neck pickup, and my decision will ultimately rest upon the feedback i get from my trusty PG mates. So please to the best of ur 'axoligical' ability...wats the pro's and cons of the two, and any other pickup recommomendations? thanks
  7. dude shawn lane is the only way to go im serious jazz/raga/shred
  8. Allan Holdsworth Al Di Meola Paco De Lucia
  9. The late Shawn Lane will absolutely blow your mind, not just by his unrivaled guitar virtuosity but by the strentgth of his compositional skills notably the "powers of ten" album. now theres a jazz fusion shredder who can shred anyone out of the water, whilst maintaing his music has a melodic backbone
  10. Hey dudes i have an Ibanez RG 1570, and it doesnt come with a scratch plate and they r very difficult to find here in australia i wanna make it look sweet and put like a chrome/metallic plate on but i need a template that will fit the exact dimensions of the traditional RG scratchplates if any of you have one could u send it over my way thanks
  11. y is everyone a b**ch in these forums, lighten up stop being so nancy about the tiny little things people say out of jest or without the intended malice
  12. Hey dudes Im about to buy an EMG 81 Active Humbucker, upon telling my mate he read up on an old music mag that said something along the lines of "You cant fit EMG's into your guitar if you are planning on having them accompanied by single coils and humbuckers of other make and brands" *** MATE????? is this major bullshizen, or is it for real coz im dying for this EMG pickup
  13. wait i forget wat preamp is i have an ok amp, a Roland Cube 30 i got ages ago in leymans terms i just wanna pump it to 11
  14. EMG's all the way ill take a lamo pci wen i get them installed
  15. so the emg's produce pristine sounding notes?
  16. Hey dudes, I'm caught in pup conundrum, im gona buy a new humbucker this week and i cant for the life of me decide whether to get the EMG 81 (Active) or the Dimarzio Evolution. I basically want a pickups that is ultra-sensitive to light touch, perfect for hammer on pulls offs. Ive been hearing how awsum the EMG is and im sorta leaning towards that but its $239AUS and thats alotta money for a humbucker for a 17 yr old with no job. I basically listen to blokes like Petrucci, SAtriani and Vai (yes i noe the evolution is his sig pickup), but i really want a pickup with a really really saturated distortion that is sensitive and shred friendly. thanks dudes
  17. yeh i checked out the active EMG's (i went to the site and had a read) and despite the fact i still don't know what im looking at because all this electronic crapola excedes my mental capacity for logical comprehension, im sorta leading in the active EMG direction (well i gotta start somewhere). I read the active EMG humbuckers and P-90's are really sensitive, and i was wondering wat you guys thought. Also is it possible to combine active pickups and passive pickups eg. have a active EMG as your neck and say a DiMarzio Evolution as your bridge???? peace out
  18. thanks dudes for your words of axological wisdom, but my latest inquoiry is what are active and passive pick-ups? and what are the pro's and con's of said pickups.
  19. yeh but thats the thing, as much as i love traditional jazz like the unparalleled virtuoso Joe Pass, im more of a jazz fusionist (despite the fact im as dumb as dogshit, in terms of jazz theory to craft holdsworthian type interval leads) so im really not after a traditional jazz sound, rather a 'newskool' metal sound to burn over a jazz harmony
  20. yeh my mate has fitted his 1570 with evolution and i hear nothing but good reports. im actually not a big metal fan, im into sweeter harmonies with awsum vai-like leads and melodies, despite the fact i enjoy the occasional metallica solo my musical pallete (if thats how u spell it) is more centred around jazz/blues and mahavishnu orchestra lol
  21. hey dudes yeh im seriously electronically (for lack of a better word) retarded when it comes to the finer aspects of Pick-up specs. Basically i have an Ibanez RG 1570 Prestige, and i ran into a bit of money recently and im in the market for scrapping my stock pups, coz they sound utterly shithouse now even tho its only been one year - i dont think i treat them that well. Anyways i want to get a new set of pups to turn my mediocre RG into a beast, but i seriously don't noe where to begin. Ok basically im looking for sum pups that sustain like crazy, are really sensitive to light touch, but have a unique tone all wen switched to distortion. In a nutshell Steve Vai/Petrucci/Holdsworth type tones (And yes i noe that most of their tone comes from their amps etc). I also want a really good bluesy tone 'SRV'-esque (yes i also noe his tone is impossible to get). Thanks try your best to understand my dribble PS. What are single coil pickups??? i used to see my old guitar tutor pull his tone knob up on his own RG and it wood sound like a strat????
  22. yeh wes i can see u doing octaves alot, it must be in the name, Wes Montgomery anyone?
  23. actually those types of octaval chords rnt as rare in metal music as u think, ride the lighting solo for example. And yes Curtis u nance u can play it with ur fingers and a pick its called hybrid picking, ala Eric Johnson, Shawn Lane
