  1. well, easiest way is to check out manufactures web pages, seymore duncan, emg, etc. there should be some sound clips for different pickups. pick the ones you like. also google boutuque pickups if money is not an issue. many many many pickup manufacturers out there to choose from, a little sound clip listening will go a long way. duncans, bareknuckle, great choices. also p-90's to my knowldge require 500k pots, i believe. what do you have installled on the gitfiddle? if im wrong im sure someone will hip us in the right direction
  2. what about some gears and stuff like the steampunk strat:http://steampunkworkshop.com/steampunk-strat.shtml
  3. tryin to place a 1k pot for a noisy cricket build, anyone know an electronics store in columbus? tried google, got radio shack and circuit city type things. maybe im not using the right keywords? but i digress, cant find that finiky ik pot (full size- not a circuit mounted trimmer). thanks.
  4. well got the curly peices out, heavy and dense, also a great tone from doing the ol' tone tap-bright and clear. i imagine its not pine, very straight, no knots or warps and very clean, minus a little saw chatter. im gonna hit em with a sander and some thinner see if the grain pops. and what about the nail holes? very few, and i prefer to call them "tone chambers" ha ha. well see what happens.
  5. yeah, i figured id at least try to make a pine tele style body from it, if it doesnt work out, no harm no foul.
  6. so i work in a warehouse, and today i stumbled upon wht appears to be a flamed pine pallet? is this possible, wood pallets are generally made from pine, yea? anyone seen this. ill try to get some pics up later. if this is not in the right forum, my apologies.
  7. i have orderd quite a bit of stuff from that site, very reliable. pickups sound great too.
  8. nice fret markers, and that top is gonna be sexy with that dye job. great work keep it up!
  9. no actually i allready have a line 6 head and a marshall 4x12, i just had this stuff sitting around and was wondering if it would be possible is all. it sounds pretty difficult anyway and is not really a big deal, just curious, anyway thanks for all the replies guys. its good to know you can still find people to be helpful on the information superhiway. thanks again.
  10. is it possible to turn an old stereo (about ten yrs old) into a low watt amp? i have these 2 small speakers (about 5 0r 6 inch) and an old stereo and i wanted to use the old speakers for a low wattage amp. i just dont want to buy an am kit yet till i get better with electronics work. its a fairly uncomplicated solid state stereo. any help would be awesome
  11. Thats effin brilliant why didnt i think of that!! so i need a schematic with NO selector switch and cant find one on any sites (been to most major pickup manufactures sites for endless lists of wiriing schematics) any ideas?
  12. ok so i have an ibanez with 2 buckers and a 3 way switch. in the process of rebuilding i added a mini toggle to coil cut each pickup indepently from each other--in other words i can cut the neck, put the p/u selector in the middle and use my bridge bucker with my neck single and many different combos. my question is this--i want to be able to independantly change vol and tone on each pickup as well, can i add a push pull for each knob and do this? can i run my pickups with no selecter switch and use the vol knobs for selection (volume on 0 for neck no sound, so neck is basically "off") this is how i figured most basses with more than 1 p/u work-yes? any ideas?
  13. so istand corrected, coulda sworn the carvin headstock was shaped but apparently not thanks guys!
  14. greetings all. so ive been searching through the supplies section and ebay and google and im just knot hitting what i want. im looking for a good neck thru neck for a future project. woods not really a concern,(maple neck with rosewood, maple-dont really need any special woods like birdseye or ebony board) and i love the one from carvin, except it says carvin. i dont want to build a carvin guitar, nor do i have the time and money to start buying all of the necesary tools to build my own. i know it will cost at least a couple hundred bucks, which is okay as long as its quality. just need a pointing in the right direction. thanks.
  15. i just reread your post 'zilla, and you did go to 12000 w/ micromesh. so that answers that. then just straight to the swirl remover and glaze. check and check.
  16. yeah man take your time. im only refinishing a guitar and spent a year and a half researching and gathering materials and i still have a lot to learn just about laquer. be patient, it will be worth it.
  17. what exactly is the process for this and where can i find meguiar? i live in ohio. i have been reading dan erlewines "guitar player repair guide" and he says to use compound #2 after a 1200 grit sanding followed by #9(swirl remover) and then onto the #7 glaze. if i use micromesh papers up to say 12000 grit can i skip any of the above steps? also i found a pumice and rotton stone combination --anyone use this? i dont know what works best since im having a difficult time finding the meguiars. i apologize for the thread steal.
  18. also would tinting the oil and or shellac help? it is 100 percent tungoil.
  19. so whats the best way to go here? i want to do a black stain over quilt maple should/ can i tung oil over it? it will be a water based stain, but when its dry it should be fine, no? or should i shellac over the stain? can i shellac over tung oil or is this moot? should i just spray poly (from rattlecan) and buff and polish? i want a real glossy finish. also are micro mesh abraisives (up to 12000 grit) enough for final polish out or should i go a step further with some pumice/rotten stone? im so lost.
  20. ok so i dropped in a new set of pups today and i want to coil tap them via a mini toggle, problem is this, i want a 3 position switch (on/off/on) so that one "on" position will tap the neck pup, and the other "on" position will tap the bridge-so i can tap them independantly of each other. the middle of coarse shutting off tap function all together. of all the wiring diagrams i found i havent seen this, is it not common or just wont work? any ideas?
  21. so i bought a new black and decker drill for small stuff like pickgaurd screws, etc, but the charger only has slots for 3 prongs on it and the battery has 4 prongs, both the battery and charger say that they are compatible, but as its non refundable, i need to figure out how to mod the battery to get into the charger, any ideas?
  22. where can i find a floyd rose recessed template? i dont want to buy one to only use once? any help, a place i can print one off the net and transfer to some wood or something?
  23. how important is it to have the nuts on a locking nut (thruogh the back of the neck) i got a locking nut that came w/ screws but no nuts, nuts are apain to find so i had to get bigger bolts. what if i dont srew them all the way through the neck, just pre drill and screw the screw in if its not longer than the neck is deep? also, for countersinking the holes for a nut,, whats the best method.?
  24. thanks for the encouragement guys, i may just buy a neck and build a new body. any good ideas on a place to buy a good neck?
  25. so out of all the saga kits on brians page, wich is the better quality? i already own a couple high end axes, but want to get into building, so before i buy a bunch of wood and mess it up i want to get a cheaper kit and build it first. so wich is better? tele or paul?
