well, i unsoldered everything, bought a real cheapy multimeter, and turns out the pot was 400k ohms. just going to use it again for the rewiring job. where does one get those anyway, i know stewmac only has 25, 250, 500, and 1 meg pots. thanks for the input. -zeggs

the knob required a hex key. found the right one so that's taken care of. But i guess my original question is: What size control pot is typically used for a S/S/H setup? 250 or 500. how would they each sound? -zeggs

whatever is written on there, is covered in solder, so i can't distinguish what kind it is. Also, how do you remove a volume control knob with a set screw (tele syle)? -zeggs

I actually don't know what's in there now. If i knew, i would just buy the same one. does it usually say 250 or 500 in small numbers on the side?

Hi everyone, i am transferring an electrical setup from one guitar to a new body. The setup is (2) fender lace sensor's, and (1) gibson humbucker. There is (1) volume control pot, and (3) control switches (they turn each pickup on/off). Since the guitar is eight years old, and the wiring looks messy, i was going to do it all over, with new parts (just the switches and pot). what can i guess the control pot is that's already on there? 250k or 500k? i know that 250 is used with single coils, and 500 with humbuckers. what is used when its a mixture of the two pickups? i would greatly appreciate a response. -zeggs

Hey everyone, i just completed my guitar. Its a lefty strat-like, with texas special pickups. I finally got to play it loud on Friday night. Obviously because of the hum cancelling, reverse wound middle pickup, there was no hum in the 2 and 4 positions on the 5 way switch selector. I was, however, getting some hum in the 1,3 , and 5 positions. Is SOME hum normal in a strat in these positions, or can it be completely eliminated. I shielded the entire cavity with copper tape, and shielded the underside of the pickgaurd as well. Is there anything else it could be. All my wiring connections seem to be clean. I'd appreciate any kind of response, comment, feedback. Thanks. -Zeggs

i just realized something else, my knobs have numbers on them going in one direction. if i mirror the wiring of the pots, then my knobs will have 1 as the highest and 10 being the lowest. So finally, i have concluded, that i will wire everything as a righty, EXCEPT face the spring of the 5 way switcher towards the pots, instead of away. I'd rather have my switcher going the right direction. and this way 10 will be the highest on my knobs, instead of the lowest. wow, no wonder lefties don't live as long.

Yeah, but to avoid having to go back in, i would love to get it right (or should i say left) the first time. i am going to do what you said before, which is wire the pots mirrored, and do the 5 way switch righty, but face the spring towards the pots. i'll let you know how it goes. thanks for the input

that makes sense to wire the pots mirrored so that the knobs turn the right way for me, but i was just taking a look at the diagram, and i think for the 5 way switch, i should wire it EXACTLY like a righty, except install it in the pickguard so the spring is FACING the pots, not away from them. Otherwise, if i put the switch away from the pots, when in first position, instead of the bridge neckup playing, it would be the neck pickup. Is that an accurate conclusion? -Greg

Hi Everyone, I am wiring my left handed strat, and am a little confused how to wire it. All the diagrams i have and instructional videos are for a right handed guitar. I was wondering if the fact that i am a lefty matters at all in terms of wiring. Meaning, should the wires still go to the EXACT same terminals as a right handed guitar. Here is a diagram of right handed strat setup. http://www.stewmac.com/catalog/images_2lg/5600_2lg.jpg As a reference to myself, i mirrored the image so it had the lefty setup, but then that changes which terminals the wires go to. Not sure if that makes sense or not, but if you have any comments or input into this, i would greatly appreciate an answer. Also, when shielding, do you shield the output jack cavity? -Greg

Hi everyone, i bought this lefty handed strat body on ebay a couple weeks ago: Well, i'm putting it together, and i was wondering about the tremolo system that should be put in. The body is to be used with a modern style string through tremolo system with 2-1/8" string spacing. Holes are pre-drilled as you can see. The tremolo system that i have is: Stewart MacDonald guitar parts i got the chrome lefty model. Anyway, the spacing for this is 2-7/32", and the six screw holes obviously don't quite match up. Can i still use this if the strings line up right on the fetboard to the nut? Meaning, the high E string is closer to the edge of the fretboard on the 22nd fret, compared with the first fret. not by much at all, but a little. where can i get the right part for this. Where do they have a lefty chrome strat tremolo system with a 2-1//8" string spacing? or can i just use what i have? I would appreciate any answers, comments. Thanks for reading. -Greg

Thanks for the replies everyone. I rotated each pickup and luckily, the pickguard/pickups just fit back into the body, no extra routing necessary. they are now in the right orientation. Thanks again. zeggs

Does Fender make a lefty version of those pickups? if so, where can i get them. thinking about just rotating them so the shorter rods are lined up with the high E and B. -Greg

Thanks for the reposnse, what about rotating each of them so they match up with the correct string? would that work? they are fender custom shop texas special pickups. -Greg
