  1. be my guest to ask questions here. any info that is out there will help.
  2. i have never filed saddles. i have filed nuts tho. is it the same thing? anything i should know?
  3. just to add my two cents, i have an epiphone sg 310. put new hardware and pickups in it. it plays better then some gibsons i pick up. but iv also put money into a epiphone les paul, it just didnt play right. it hink its all the guitar. and i like korean made epiphones. iv seen alot of great korean made epiphones
  4. after searching i found this answer: "If the inserts come out easily, pull them straight up and out, then coat the knurled part with one or two coats of superglue and let it dry overnight. (the knurled part is the toothed outside edge that holds the insert in the wood) After it has dried overnight, use a padded C-clamp to push it back into place. The general idea is to increase the size of the insert slightly and the superglue will be hard enough to keep your tone and not screw up the body. The other alternative is to fill the hole with a hardwood dowel and re-drill, not exactly an easy thing. By the way, epoxy should be the last thing to consider in doing repairs,One,it usually doesn't set up hard enough, and two, it is almost impossible to remove if you screw up. With superglue, you can clean up with acetone or nail polish remover. (not the kind that has hand lotion or moisturizer in it)." from this forum http://www.guitarnoise.com/forums/viewtopi...p;sk=t&sd=a. my sg is doing the same thing. is tha what i should do or any better ideas. i was going to just throw some super glue in the hole and put the bushing down in it.
  5. hey guys. my tailpiece bushing on my sg has prided up over the past 5 years. it seems to have stoped moving awhile back. the backside is prided up .54mm. i do not have money to get new bushings like everyone says on the other threads iv searched for. i want to super glue it in, or epoxy it in. now will this effect the ground wire that is connected to the bushing? also what kind of epoxy should i use? will it effect my tuning stabablity or anything like the guitars amazing tone? right now the guitar plays amazing. the bushings have been pulled out and there kinda hard to get out of the hole, so there not lose. my tech told me to just leave it like that. but i dont want the bushing to rip out over time. he recomended just leaving it be.
  6. thats good to know keith. i was sticking the wired through the holes. i will change what i do now. no one tought me how to solder i thought myself
  7. im not saying im doing anything to the neck yet, but when i do should i sand the neck first? (as explained in tutorals and what not) or just leave it and apply the lacquer right to the neck? same question for the tung oil varnish. i have some in my basement. should i sand the neck first or just apply right to it? im not going to touch the neck for a little while, from what iv been told what is on the neck is doing good as is. it was mainly worried about the neck being subjected to the crazy climates here in boston. but if i am understanding all this right then its fine and everything else is just a finish. thanks sorry if those questions are stupid.
  8. i believe i found my answers here http://www.flash.net/~guitars/Fenderneck.html and here http://home.flash.net/~guitars/ReRanch101.html thanks guys
  9. yes john that answered my questions. i have gone through half of the tutorals and havent found the answers im looking for. your right mickgaurd, i dont now what im doing thats why im trying to figure out i have looked threw some tutorals on the project gutiar website and havent found answers to my question. from what i understoon the finish gave the guitar extra protection from keepnig it striaght. my neck feels like there is nothing on the neck at all. other guitars in this model have necks that are bent HORRIBLY i dont want the same fate to happen to mine. please note that im not going to touch the guitar neck till i kno 100% what is it on and what i wnat to do. but like john said helped me out. i could not find the difference between stain and finish. now i kno. squier told me that they put a sanding sealer on it. thanks for your help. ill research morei didnt see the tutoral section on this forum ill go threw that. first! thanks again
  10. i see. i just dont want the neck to start to warp in a few yaers or months. maybe this is a stupid question but does a stain/finish on a neck help protect it? im a little confused on that
  11. i got a squier neck. i guess they just put wood sealer on it, i want to finish it. i would like to put a Polyurethane stain on it. i have looked at the tutorals. my only question is will the wood change (warp swell ect) because i am putting a new product on it? right now the neck is perfectly straight. but im a little worried because there is nothing protecting it. or is it ok as is?
  12. since im kinda new here, what is OLF? iv hurd it a few times but dont no what it is
  13. since im kinda new here, what is OLF? iv hurd it a few times but dont no what it is
  14. thanks guys. like i said this post was where i started my research. after i posted it i went out and searched for a good hour or so. i found the answers like jmrentis said. its always nice to have research and some ideas to start with. i tend to do this with every forum im in. post my question then do some research. after i have research i can compare it to what people say. greegp- im not going to buy the guitar at all. i was walking by the wall of fenders at my local guitar center and saw this guitar. it had a reverse headstock so it cought my eye. but after further inspection i saw it had fret issues and put it away. i was just wondering how i would fix it if i happened to run across this problem agian.
  15. hey. today at guitar center i saw a guitar that i liked. i picked it up and noticed some frets were sticking out the side of the fretboard. like on the side of the neck. i put it back. i was just wondering how to fix this. im going to do research. but this is where im gonig to start. any sites or anything?
  16. ok. i do keep my guitar about 3 or 4 feet infrount of the radiator but im not worried about that to much. the guitar is from 1995. the guy that sold it to me said it was nitro but im trying 2 contact the squier to find out for sure but im just going to leave it. no use on stripping it if its fine. thanks
  17. ahh i see. im not sure whats on this neck then. it feels like there is nothing at all. ill do my research and figure out whats up. this was just were i started. thanks tho what is a dangerus heat change? in my house when no1 is home my father keeps it at 59 degrees. when people are home he keeps it at 64. is that bad for the guitar neck. iv had an sg and a ibanez that seem to be fine iv never worried about it. sometimes if its to cold i throw a shirt over the neck or a sweatshirt.
  18. hey guys. someone told me that fender has switched coating there necks from Polyurethane Finish to a Nitrocellulose Lacquer Finish. i always thought poly stains were better because they may help with the protection of the guitar and give it some extra protection from the neck warping. is this true? or am i wrong? the reason im asking this is i got a squeir strat im looking to make a bit better. it has a Nitrocellulose Lacquer Finish on the neck. im thinkin about sanding this off and putting a coat of polyurethane on it. good idea or no? thanks guys
  19. well i just picked up a strat neck. it feels like it has no finish on it. its a squier guitar made in indonesia. it plays really nice thats why i got it. should i leave what ever finish is on it? do you know what finish is on it? im trying to find out on some other sites but no luck yet. should i refinish it with somthing else. im only asking this because somone once told me that a poly stain was the best for a neck it helps it stay straight and not warp. is this true?
  20. if u have never scalloped a neck id find a junk neck and practice on that first. you dont want to spend all that money on the guitar and ruin the neck. then u have to go out and find a replacement neck that is good enough to play on. i ask my local music shops to for broken necks or somthing like that. they nomally give them 2 me for free or i have to pay.
  21. lol that really explains alot. i have to check if what i put in my guitars are audio. thanks guys.
  22. thanks digi, i love that website i use it all the time. i got everything under control about the electroics. im not sure the model of the yamaha off the top of my head. ill check and let u kno. thanks for all your help tho. i was always told 250k pots for singlecoils and humbuckers us 500K. if im wrong let me know but that is waht i do lol. im going to look to spice the electonics up. not to sure what im going to do yet tho. ill let you guys no. although i am a bit cofused on what linear and audio pots are. i think im going 2 have pick different ones up and exeperemnt.
  23. thanks digi, i think im going to focus on the other things. replacing the tuners and the saddles have barbs on them. im going to get a new bridge i thought about just replacing the saddles but i think im going all out on this one. (its all in metric so il have to keep it in mind) and new picks and all that work. i used a multimeter and the pots are not reading the right value, im going to just totaly rip everything out and rewire it all with new pots and such. im going to put a humbucke in the bridge i think. so ill need to rout that in. nothing to crazy yet. then ill work on the neck when i feel like i can refret. iv refretted close to 8 times on a few necks. at first i screwd up alot. but the last two times i think i did a good job. but im not ready to jump onto a guitar taht will acually play everyday. i refretted a saga neck and it plays pretty good. and the other neck was a junk squire neck. its all practice.
