  1. Hi guys. As many of you already seen i've recently finished my bass build and what interesting about it is that i used the onboard preamp in guitar/bass for the first time. Before this build i never understood why are so many knobs in most of good basses and why bass players need them and guitar players does not. So when choosing electronics for Rhino bass i was looking for best pickups (so i choodes Nordstrand DC). Then i explored several forums and found that these pickups combination with Aguilar OBP is the best. It have 3-band equalizer, 400/800 Hz mid frequency swithc, active/passive switch, volume and blend controls. What can i say? I now fully understand why so many high class basses (like Alembic) have so much controls. The sound changes drastically when you use EQ, you can make almost any sound you want from bass - it can be warm, sharp, round, bright. There is no noise. After active mode the passive one looks poor. Of course i understand that you can use passive bass and external preamps with equalizers but this is another story. So what's the question? If the bass preamps work so well and used in so many high-class products why can't we see anything like this in guitars? Do any of you have experince of using built in preamps with EQ in guitars?
  2. Thanks everybody for good words. Tele/ Firebird I am fan of Telecasters and appreciate when luthiers experiment with this classic shape so i really like your build. Wooden pickup mountings looks great! The only thing i want to advice is to put your logo on the headstock - of course it's my own opinion, but i think such a great guitar deserves your name on it. In this case headstock will look richer. Wengie This build is my favourite. Wenge is capricious wood to work with but it looks great. The combination of body wood and top, fingerboard, neck laminate is amazing! Red planet Extremely well built and very nice looking guitar! As guys already mentioned the top is amazing and i really like how you choosed the wood combinations (and especially the fact you didn't poot dots on the freatboard ). And i like your logo on the headstock!

  4. Thanks! It's not possible to make a living by building custom guitars in Russia so i was very active building guitars during my study in the university, but after that i got a job. Now i don't have regular access to the shop and can rarely do something in my apartments. Maybe in future things will change. ScottR, H.neckel013, ajax - thanks!
  5. Hey all! Unfortunately i wasn't able to make any guitars for several years but found some time to finish this build. 6. Voted for "Build #6" - every detail in this guitar is insane.
  7. Presenting Imago Bane Specs: Body - sapele+cherry (top) Neck - 3pcs mahogany Freatboard - bookmatched wenge Tuners - sperzel Pickups - SH-6+Golden Age Build topic More photos: http://i493.photobucket.com/albums/rr295/MrButtmann/Bane/22.jpg http://i493.photobucket.com/albums/rr295/MrButtmann/Bane/6.jpg http://i493.photobucket.com/albums/rr295/MrButtmann/Bane/7.jpg http://i493.photobucket.com/albums/rr295/MrButtmann/Bane/10.jpg
  8. Thanks everybody for comments! Of course it's not "my" shape. I just found a template in the shop: It seemed to me very comfortable so i decided to use it.
  9. So 2 months ago i've got an opportunity to finish the guitar. I painted it white and this time everything was great. The guitar is very light and easy to play and the sound is well balanced with nice sustain. Specs: Body - sapele+cherry (top) Neck - 3pcs mahogany Freatboard - bookmatched wenge Tuners - sperzel Pickups - SH-6+Golden Age Here are the photos: http://i493.photobucket.com/albums/rr295/MrButtmann/Bane/22.jpg http://i493.photobucket.com/albums/rr295/MrButtmann/Bane/6.jpg http://i493.photobucket.com/albums/rr295/MrButtmann/Bane/7.jpg http://i493.photobucket.com/albums/rr295/MrButtmann/Bane/10.jpg
  10. It was the time of finishing the guitar. I decided to stain to with blue and then make whole guitar plain blue with transparent top. Here are the only photos i have (sorry for bad quality): After finishing the guitar i had troubles again: 1. Unfortunately i've made a mistake during mixing of lacquer so the finish was soft 2. I've made a mistake with bridge humbucker position - it was too close to the bridge. So i decided to sand the guitar. Then i glued wood block in humbucker cavity and rerouted it.
  11. But then i thought again and understood that it would be a crime to have this body with very nice neck. So for the 3rd time i decided to change body design but with new wood (not using old body). Result: Inlay work: Then i glued the neck and carved neck and body
  12. But the i saw Leviathan guitar on this forum (http://www.lgmguitars.com/guitars/leviathan/) and thought that it's better two have this design I absolutely forgot that i made cavities in the body and decided to reshape it to Leviathan. Here are the results: As you can see there are many holes on the side of the guitar which i glued with scrap wood (and you can see scrap wood on the horn) Of course i've decided to make suited headstock! So finally i had this as a result:
  13. Hey guys! I haven't been here for a long time had a lot of work and wasn't able to make any guitar. Fortunately couple of months ago i had an opportunity to finish my 3 years old build. This build is not usual like "ideas->photoshop drawing->building" and i want to tell the story. Three years ago i decided to build copy of ESP Horizon guitar from the wood that is not sorry. So for body i took mahogany and cherry (top and back). I decided to make cavities under the top as you can see on the photo. As for neck - i made 3pcs mahogany neck blank and bookmathed wenge freatboard (made of two pcs!).
  14. The customer made a small video sample: Clean (through peavey classic+reverb+delay):
  15. One of the best basses i ever seen! gogo GOTM
  16. I chose between Metalhead and guitarnut. And finally Metalhead got my vote,i really like the inlay! Though i think the guitar could be better with another finish Guitarnut - your guitar is very interesting and despite the original finish it looks integral.
  17. Thanks Prostheta and oblaty! I'm very pleased with the result and very proud that many guitarbuilders on Projectguitar like it.

  20. VERY nice explorer, especially i like the neck. The volute fits thit neck and wood combination very well.
