    Wtb: Strat

That would work - if it isn't a total POS. Do you have pics/specs?
  2. Looking for a strat with sunburst or tobacco burst finish and maple fingerboard. I don't play much, so I am looking to spend as little as possible. I would also be interested in buying your strat and POD if you have both. Please send pics to kirkaslossar@comcast.net
  3. So, do I have to use water or not......and what do I buff it with - wax on or wax off....... Danielson, I am clueless.
  4. Got a neck on the way and for some reason the previous owner felt it was necessary to put a water slide decal on the headstock - it would have been fine, but the brand name doesn't match the neck - by any stretch of the imagination. So, without completely refinishing the headstock, is there any way to remove a water slide decal?
  5. The distance from the bridge to the nut is going to be different, and the width of a bass neck/fretboard is going to be wider. So once you route the neck joint to the proper spec, and get the bridge in its proper place, it should be smooth sailing. Everything else is just wiring? You could probably have a body made in the style you want for pennies these days, what with all the online vendors, why not just buy a new one?
  6. It doesn't matter how much you pay for a guitar, or where its built or who built it. Its all in your head and your hands. I didn't read all of this thread because I've read this discussion a thousand time before, but another thing to consider is artist endorsements. This is another cause of inflation of prices of guitars - royalties. Sorry if I repeated what someone else said.
  7. It's a Washburn Idol 66 V in Carmel Burst. Here's the exact specs and a pic from their website: Mahogany Bound, carved quilt maple top Neck Scale 24¾" 22 Frets Set neck joining style Mahogany neck Fingerboard radius 14" Bound rosewood fingerboard Bound headstock Fulcrum stay-in tune vibrato tailpiece WB630 high output pickups 3 way toggle Switch Speed knob Exclusive Grover 18:1 gear ratio tuners List price: $999.90 This guitar is a steal at this price, especially with the upgraded pickups. I will ship overseas, but you will have to add actual shipping costs/duties/taxes/tarrifs/whatever to your final price. One thing I should mention about the guitar is that it came with "VOC" tone controls. They have been bypassed so there is no tone control. However, the pots and knobs are still on the guitar. You can still wire them in if you so desire, but I didn't want them wired up. G - it aint sold yet man.
  8. 1. Brian I am looking to have something like this built: No graphic, reverse strathead, gold hardware. Full specs by email if you want more info. 2. Third eye please email me for pics. I am thinking about $500 for the RG620 - near mint, has a Tone Zone in the bridge, shipped w/case (list is $1000, good sale price is probably about $600 w/o case.) Best offer for the holoflash RG565 very good condition, shipped w/case (I bought it for $250, had custom paint which cost me about $300 so you can make your offer based on that info.) The Washburn is a suprisingly awesome guitar, mahogany body with a beautiful and thick quilt maple top. Set neck and the Feiten tuning system (you can really hear the difference!) It has a Duncan '59 in the neck and a Tone Zone in the bridge. $275 OBO shipped in gig bag. The Jackson Firebird 2 is near mint, lisenced FR bridge and has a Duncan Jazz in the neck and a Distortion in the bridge. Very cool guitar. $425 shipped in case. 3. KrazyDerek, I have been pricing parts for this custom for almost a year now. IMHO, two of these guitars may cover the cost of having it built. That is of course if the luthier is a hobbyist and not the Fender or Jackson custom shop, and willing to do the work for the experience not the cash. The guitar should cost me no more than about $900 for me to build it from band new parts (shop Warmoth's thrift shop and ebay .) Believe me, I know what I want! I'm not even a woodshedder guys. I haven't touched these guitars in almost two months. (Don't worry I'll have them setup before I send them out to the purchaser.) I like looking at guitars more than I like playing them! Jeremy you're posting while I am writing this. I will check the mail. Just a note, another person has already been in touch with me, but I am not sure if he's committed to doing anything yet.
  9. I have a few guitars that I would like to trade or sell. Ultimately I would like to have a very basic custom guitar made for me, so I would also trade these guitars for "services rendered." Here's what I have to offer: Jackson Firebird, Ibanez RG565, Ibanez RG620X and a Washburn Idol. I'll send pics and specs if anyone can help me out, or if anyone is interested in buying.
  10. I think there is just a bit more involve than "just drilling some holes." If the bridge is not in the placed properly, the guitar will not intonate properly or efficiently among other problems. The only other problem is going to be the trem stud spacing. It's funny that you said you liked the "streamlined" look of a vintage trem, I am just the opposite. I have a hard time buying guitars without a FR, and I barely use the bar! Crazy I know - and actually almost half of my guitars have a stop piece or vintage trem! Dennis - I'd have to sell something first! It's all part of the cycle....and I've been looking for just the right (priced) FR Classic or Sambora model with a FR.
  11. I'd sell the guitar or bring it back to GC. If you just bought it you should have no problem returning it - the whole concept behind the "Floyd Rose Classic" is, well, to have a Floyd Rose on it. I'd recommend trying to find an American Deluxe Fat Strat, which has the full size humbucker in the bridge, locking tuners etc.... What is it about the FR that you don't like? This will help us to help you better! 1. You'll have a FR nut on the guitar, but not a FR trem. Locking tuners work just as well if not better than a locking nut. Some purists claim that the locking nut isn't as good as a bone, plastic or other type of traditional nut. 2. You could have bought a standard strat and routed the body cavity to fit a full size humbucker, or replace the bridge full size humbucker with a stacked single coil (humbucking.) 3. If you put a traditional six screw trem on it, you'll have six screw holes on the top if the guitar which isn't very pretty if you decided to try the FR again. 4. As for putting on a traditional trem that mounts on the two trem posts, you should measure the distance between the posts to make sure it will line up. 5. You may like the old FR that didn't have any fine tuners on it. You can usually find these on evilbay for about $40-60. These will directly replace the FR you have on this strat. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...&category=33043 6. Maybe you should try blocking the trem to stop it from pulling sharp or going flat. 6. Install a hardtail? You'll have to fill in the trem route with wood, etc. 7. Don't listen to me. This is a good option if you are really trying to get into luthiery. This project could teach you how to swap the trem, how to measure the proper distance for bridge and nut placement, refinishing, wood working, routing, blah blah blah...... 8. If it's got a maple fingerboard and you decide that you don't want it, drop me a line I'll buy it! kirkslossar@comcast.net
  12. I cleared this one with Brian mods, so please don't shut her down! A friend of mine from Canada called me the other day and asked if I would let him ship a guitar to my house, which was fine with me. He also asked me to order the guitar, which is fine with me. The guitar - an Ibanez RG3120DR. The price - $599 - shipped via standard ground (free ground shipping.) It was ordered on Wednesday, shipped overnight ($645.90 total to Michigan) and arrived (in flawless condition) at 10:30am on Thursday. Now how's that for a great price and fast shipping of a high quality instrument? Here's a link: http://www.guitartrader.com/itempg.icl?ord...=25&numitems=26 Nay sayers - I know a lot of people don't like the big chains, but I don't think that Guitar Trader is one of them. I talked to them on Wednesday and they bought a bunch of the now discontinued RG3120DRs which is why they are blowing them out. They are prompt and courteous, and their return policies are excellent. So if you're in the market for a Prestige quality RG, this is your chance to score one at an awesome price!!!!! BTW, click on the "Green Tag Sale" link. They are also offering quite a few other quality Ibanez guitars at an unbelievable price. I like the yummy neck through Pearl Red RG for $299!
  13. Kirk

    Band Names

Mine (Geezer) was a variation of "Weezer" since we are a cover band and play some of their stuff. Didn't even know that GB had a band called Geezer! Seems appropriate for more than one reason.
  14. Kirk

    Band Names

Friend's band from high school: NE1410S? These were suggested and rejected by my band members: Hack (cause I am,) Geezer (cause they are,) Cold Shot (cause we couldn't agree on anything else.)
  15. I aint BS-ing here folks, deliver it fast and cheap. Anyone who is reputable will be willing to accept returns provided the flaws were related to the manufacturer or retailer.
  16. Bring it. Mi casa es su casa. I'd come down there, but I am trying to run a business here. I just hired someone, but I'll be training them for the next two weeks - then I actually get a weekend off!!!!
  17. You'll have to come and pick it up (you can take the DSR head too). I spent the airline ticket money for Jemfest on it!
  18. Hey guys, I am sorry that I am chiming in on this so late, but I have to agree with Kevan on this one. I looked at the RG flame and was not impressed. I was impressed with this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...DME:B:EOAB:US:6 So I bought it! Wooo hooo
  19. You forgot "Don't let me get my hands on your guitar." :o
  20. I was born in Connecticut, have lived in South Carolina, North Carolina, Cuba, New Jersey and now I live in Michigan. All these moves in the last 10 years.
  21. I don't see things the same way. I do see a lot of Columbia memorabilia, and sure there is some opportunist who posted a bunch of stuff they had, but a lot of that stuff was already on Ebay. I also don't think it's so wrong if people are selling this stuff for people who want to remember - by owning one of the pre-packaged tiles, a launch program, a mission patch etc....... I work in an industry that is opportunistic - journalism. The number of newspapers produced by the Detroit News Agency nearly doubled last night. Will they all sell? Probably not. But do you think the DNA or any other news agency (print or otherwise) will pass up the opportunity to make more money? No. The television stations have been beating this thing to death, with little or no new info - more speculation than sympathy. Don't you think a memorial would be more appropriate? Maybe a news update every hour? It's all money. It doesn't bother me enough I guess (selling memorabilia.) I actually thought about buying something - I was there at the very first launch (I think I was 8 or 9), and a couple of night launches throughout the eighties as well. I was thinking about the yellow t-shirt I wore the hell out of, and how I wish I still had it. Some tangible piece of a memory. You want to talk pathetic? How about Hussein's cabinet member who says that he's happy that it happened - it was god's way of punishing us for our evil ways. Now that is pathetic. To each his own. But I don't see a moral or criminal violation in the sale of this memorabilia at all - if it was tasteless or mocking I would agree wholeheartedly.
  22. G - it's nice to be on a forum with you again. I agree, although I don't think my hands are large. Small necks do not = fast necks. As for the 565 (I'm probably dooming myself now that I am saying this) - I am in love with it. The way the guy finished it - it's just remarkable. Also, I've had the opportunity to use it "live" and the colors that it throws are even more beautiful. OK- so the bidding starts at...................
  23. Actually, I've had 99% of this stuff for some time now. I sold off a bunch of RGs because I have found that playing a guitar with a larger neck doesn't fatigue my left hand as much. I thought it would have been the other way around. I found a treatment for "Kirk-itis." Buy crap that noone else would buy. Then I can't sell it.
  24. Guitars (this week): ESP M1 Ibanez RG565 (w/holoflash finish) Ibanez Destroyer (2002 full size reissue) Ibanez RG620X Ibanez Jem7VSGR (my take on the new sparkle blue, but in sprakle green - not done yet but in the works) Jackson Firebird Lentz Firebird (Scott Lentz is the man) FX: Intellifex (w/Motorola chipset) Had Horsey II Amp: Dynamic Sound Research - this was custom made by Jeff Laroque over in Canada, hand-wired - all point to point wiring, no pc boards or ribbon cables, pentode/triode. It's like the guys from Mesa met the Soldano crew in a dark alley and beat Jim Marshall over the head with a 2x4 loaded with rusty nails. There's no clean channel in it *yet* but it's coming. The best part is that it looks like a sleeper - it was built using an old Tryanor PA head. Jeff makes custom cabinets for the heads, but mine was a proto that I bought for a song. Among the few that are on the road, four of them are on tour with Kitty. I'll post pics of this stuff once the Jem and another custom that is being built are finished.
