  1. I sprayed one coat of laquer on the body last night but I used a matte finish on it, I kind of like the look what are your opinions on gloss levels. Should I go with a igh gloos semi gloss or a low luster finish. Of course i'll need to compound and polish it whaen i'm done laquering but I've never done this before so A little input would be great. I was figuring on like 5 or 6 more coats of laquer before i compound that will give it like 20 coats.
  2. this is last of the painting to be done to this piece, I have about 10 coats of laquer on it before i added the brown now all thats left is to add about 5 more coats of laquer and compound and sand http://i233.photobucket.com/albums/ee213/D...08/100_1053.jpg http://i233.photobucket.com/albums/ee213/D...08/100_1055.jpg
  3. Looking at it in the pictures you can't really see the detail of the shading i did, but i agree i'm going to add some pattern to like Dimartini's anaconda strat.
  4. Just about done finish came good still needs more laquer and sanding compound and polish, Any ideas on cleaning up the fretboard? http://i233.photobucket.com/albums/ee213/D...08/100_1048.jpg http://i233.photobucket.com/albums/ee213/D...08/100_1047.jpg http://i233.photobucket.com/albums/ee213/D...08/100_1040.jpg Visit My Website
  5. Depending upon what you are looking for try Mohawk tone finish for furniture. I just did a body with it and sprayed laquer over it it looks great no ill effects after the factVisit My Website
  6. Ok I repainted the body and Laquered. Not peeling, curling or lifting. Mohawk laquer tone finishes are the way to go. They also have stains for those of you looking to stain and not paint. I sprayed about 6 coats of laquer sanded and spray another coat all of them with a flattening agent in the laquer almost like a satin. tommorow I plan on sanding again the spraying a few coats of High Gloss. Compound and polish and all should be good. This was my 3rd try at this and I think I've got it down now. The sides and front of the body are great the back didn't come out as well as I would have liked but it looks good. These were all furniture refinishing products I used. I would highly recommend them for anyones projects over any type of spray paint. The laquer was applied with a gun so I have no clue how those are. Also the is a product they use called flotrol or something like that helps with fisheye and clouding. It costs a little more but beats refinishing after your almost there.
  7. Painted the body with basecoat last night and began the finish today. I did the sides and the back when my stupid self bumped the body and i grabed it before it fell and put a huge smudge on the back. Which was cool i had to sand respray the black but I was really pleased with the look I got. And yes I didn't wanr ro spend allot of money on this project since it's my first time. I've already stripped the body 3 times sanded it 3 times painted it 3 1/2 times so with the amount of time and money on paint laquer sandpaper and stripper it will proablly wind up costing me $ for this project. But if it looks cool and I learn a little something from then It'll be money well spent.
  8. I'll be using a gun for clear laquer I will be using some rattle cans for color Black and white and gray will also be done with the gun
  9. I stripped the body down again, My Bro inlaw refinishes furniture and told me it was the emanel in the spray can that reacted with the laquer finish. He has laquer paint at work as well as spray cans of it they use for touch ups. He's goin to bring some over tommorrow and we'll start over then. this time I'm going to go with ablack base coat then almond an antique white and a taupe colrs and fleck in some black from a can over the top. I'm figuring on like 5 coats of laquer a wet sand a then another coat of laquer over the top. The colors seem to really come alive after the laquer. In the pics I have posted they are w/o a top coat when i top coated it the parts that didn't lift looked great the colors really jumped out w/o top coat they were really muted. So if your looking for laquer in a rattle can MOHAWK has them they use them on furniture then laquer over the top with no ill affects. Sprayed 2 coats on the second coated the paint blistered up in some areas, Any clues as to why? I guess I'll have to strip the whole thing again and start over. One good thing is once the laquer was put on the color became much more noticable and the snakeskin effect all the more noticable. I'll post part 3 of this project as i more forward with it. holy crap! someone messed up, and instead of crying blaming products and compounding mistakes , theyre gonna eat it and start over! i think this is something that every new builder on here should look at; it sucks things didnt go as originally planned; but your doing the right thing; and you got the right ideas for making it right; hats off

  19. When i used yexture i didnt mean it in that way i meant the scale look. sorry fpor a poor choice in words. I had a tele body i bought in the 80s and threw a lefty strat head neck on it i sprayed the body it looked awful but played great i craved it up threw a floyd in it soapbar at the neck I filled in the neck pick up so it's just 1 humbucker at the bridge and thought it would make a coll project.
