  1. alright, it wasn't selling just from putting it in the classifieds on sites so I've put it up on ebay http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...m=7316716500&ss any questions just get in touch with me at paul.d.alcorn@gmail.com Thanks
  2. hmm, it's possible sure but a few things alternate tunings would cause a problem and to be honest I don't think it's all that great an idea, it could cause problems with visualising the fretboard without the led's...
  3. I remember those years, not fun at all. Well, when you can offer me what I'm asking get in touch because I've advertised elsewhere and all I've got so far are foriegners that run as soon as they find out what shipping will cost them. I'll most likely still have the guitar in a month or two's time.
  4. Arbroath mate, just 17 or so miles north east of Dundee...
  5. For sale today is an RG2077XL RB '03 everything is factory spec, nothing has been changed other than the trem being blocked (I don't have the trem arm for it so I didn't see any point in not blocking it). The condition is (imo) very good, no chips, no dents, and little to no scratches. You can find pictures here - http://photobucket.com/albums/y106/paulsales/RG2077XL/ I was asking on jemsite and other places for £700, but now I'm willing to take £620 excluding shipping (I need the money for a project to start). So please, no offers of a part exchange or a full trade for something else. I'm located in Scotland so mainland UK should only cost £20 for shipping but anywhere else can get a bit costly. Any questions just email me at paul.d.alcorn@gmail.com and I'll get back to you ASAP with what you want to know
  6. I've considered merton but I can't afford to go down there. thanks for the help.
  7. ah I never knew about baileys, I think that would make a good first course to do as an introduction to the process so I think I might be getting in contact with him, plus he mentions there are no real limits to what you build as long as it's practical /smells an 8 stringer I'd be interested in doing baileys>totness>luthier international if I could fund it, thanks for putting me onto baileys though, that's exactly what I could do with right about now
  8. Hi, basically I would like to do goto a few luthier schools (take note I do realise how much these cost) most likely starting early next year if I can afford to by then. What I'd like to know is what schools/courses you would suggest I look into? I live in the UK but I'm not ruling out something abroad... My main intrest in building is solid bodied string instruments. So do any of you have suggestions?
  9. you're right it is a bit too curved, hmm, if I were to make an 8 and got a hold of some individual bridges I would probably attempt a multiple scale
  10. an 8 for a project of my own? nope, I've already got a 9 almost made for me, and I'll probably be seeing about a 8 from him aswell later on but a 7 or a 6 is more realistic for me I think, I wouldn't mind building an 8 at some point though.
  11. I've really been meaning to begin my first project for a while now but I keep thinking about my zero woodwork experience (apart from high school stuff but that was years ago now). The closest to real wood work I've been recently was cutting an RG mdf template and I *attempted* a 9 string neck, looking at it now it's more like an 8 string neck, I think I tried to mark out the fanned frets w/mutliple scale of 22.75-25.5" or something, I can't remember now I know what I'd like to build though, so that's not a problem. I guess I should just pull my finger out my ass and get to it.
  12. ...measure a 6, or 7 string guitar and then add the required width for an 8th string...it's not rocket science
  13. cool thanks, and yeah, mx just continues to get more people with bad attitudes
  14. hmm, well my ernieball strings are 950mm long, which would fit a fixed bridge at 30" wouldn't it?
  15. haha, funny you mention mx, one of the places I've asked was the bass forum about the low end and they just kept telling me I would need 34" longer, which I thought was more than needed thanks for the help guys
  16. it's just everywhere I've asked people have told me that 30" would be too short for C#, I've been getting mixed answers from different people
  17. ah, you think it should be fine, m'kay thanks for the help
  18. pretty much yeah, C#-F#-B-E-A-D-G-B-E how would 32"-34" hold up? or would this kind of tuning be too difficult to obtain?
  19. it's not a bass, I'm just curious about a scale for a 9 string guitar, tuned to C#1 standard, I mentioned a bass in my first post as a reference to the tuning that's all, so sorry about any confusion.
  20. I've been asking around other forums and I've not really been given a clear answer, my question is would a 30" scale be too short for tuning to C#1 ? that would be the 2nd fret of the low B string on a 5 string bass. if a 30" scale is too short then what scale would you recommend? Thanks in advance
  21. :S it's still coming up with - Sorry, dynamic pages in the tags are not allowed now that i think about it a bigsby wouldn't even fit onto the body, i'm going to make a mdf prototype just to make sure the shape will work and not be a bitch to use, then i'll order in the tonewood, checking the jackson site it says the RR1 has an alder body, so i might make it from alder, as for the bridge, what would be the best bet? i personally don't want a tremolo but what fixed bridge could i use that would be good for different tunings without going out of tune?
  22. hmm, i've tried a few times but it won't let me, it comes up with - THE FOLLOWING ERROR(S) WERE FOUND Sorry, dynamic pages in the tags are not allowed any ideas what's wrong? it's pretty much the same just with a slightly different flame near where the neck would be, i'm curious how i will go about putting the two sides of the guitar onto the thru neck, would it be a case of glueing it some how or is there another method?
  23. okay, well...tone wise i want the guitar to be for metal and shred, so maybe a bassier tonewood that would go well with the neck? as for my newest version of that design i can't get on my folks scanner tonight so it'll have to wait until tomorrow after work, also it'll have a fixed bridge, i'm actually curious as to whether or not i could put on a bigsby tailpeice on it, anyone know if i could?
  24. okay, im new to these forums so hello, basically i've decided that i'll atempt to make my own guitar, based around a jackson rhoads body, i'll be using a 7 string carvin hardrock maple through body neck (with ebony fretboard), i've got my design more or less finished, when i figure out how to post a picture i'll do so, until then you can find my present design at - http://www.funky.co.uk/members/albums/show...user=papa_shank the design is the picture on the far right, i've actually just drawn a new version of it which i feel is better so if anyone can tell me how to post the pictures in my replies then please do so. i'm a noob at all this construction, and i'm not sure what to make the body out of, i'm concidering mahogany but what would be a good match with the maple neck to get me a good tone? thanks for baring with all that and thanks in advance
